"Jeff is an amazing professional. This is the second time Jeff has worked to repair parts of my front walkway after a winter thaw and before Easter, when all of my relatives would be over for the Holy Day and would be taking pictures in the front. Jeff worked diligently to find the stone pavers that would work with the dimensions of my front walk. He repaired 2 collapsed steps and replaced pavers that had cracks in them. Jeff makes sure everything looks good and will last. Jeff took all of the crumbled stone pieces with him, so I didn't have to worry about any of the clean up. I know that if I need another project with my walk or outdoors, I'm calling Jeff again."

"HIGHLY RECCOMEND. From the first conversation and throughout the following processes of estimates and permitting, all the way to the end of the actual build, Deck Innovation's exceeded our expectations. Michael and team were everything we were looking for and more: genuine, honest, communicative, professional, thorough and just flat-out down to earth and pleasant humans. The quality, attention to detail and authentic devotion to their craft make recommending Deck Innovations to ANYONE in the greater Pittsburgh area an absolute no-brainer. Small jobs welcome

"Jeff installed a door from my garage to the inside of my house today. Jeff showed up on time and did the work in a timely manner. Jeff went above and beyond the initial estimate when he cut my trim around the garage side because of my garage door opener and my security panel (at no additional cost) . He also cleaned all debris from the job. Excellent work!!!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.

Before installing any materials under the deck for removing moisture, you should perform some prep work on the ground. Work the dirt under the deck to create a grade away from the home. A grade of at least six inches for every 10 feet works well. Do not leave a gap between the dirt and the home’s foundation where water could pool. Once you or a contractor regrades the dirt under the deck, you then can add materials over the top.

The most likely causes of a deck leaning to one side are damaged deck posts, soil erosion, and inadequate deck footings. If you’re not sure about the exact cause, the best option is to call a contractor who can build a deck to inspect the damage and recommend the best way forward.

Because adding a deck will yield a higher property value, you may have higher insurance costs. It’s important to follow the codes and regulations set by your local and state governments, so your insurance rates can be properly calculated. You may need an insurance revaluation after your deck is completed. The best course of action is to speak with an insurance professional to understand how adding a deck will impact your home’s insurance costs before you begin.
