"From the moment I put in a request for quote and Fleming Landscaping & Home Improvements, LLC answered my call immediately. I was already impressed. They were extremely professional and kept us abreast of everything from start to finish. We got a reasonable bid and they started the work on the day they said they would and did an exceptional job. My porch has not been that sturdy in many, many years and it is so solid now. My husband and I cannot stop looking at it. Anyone that is looking for a top notch contractor who keeps their word and gets the job done, you need NOT look any further than Fleming Landscaping & Home Improvements, LLC. We were so impressed with their work, we will be hiring them again! A pure pleasure to work with. Other contractors should take a page out of their book. This is how you treat customers!!!! A Chef Kiss!"

From the first conversation and throughout the following processes of estimates and permitting, all the way to the end of the actual build, Deck Innovation's exceeded our expectations. Michael and team were everything we were looking for and more: genuine, honest, communicative, professional, thorough and just flat-out down to earth and pleasant humans. "We had most of our landscaping ripped out and had new put in. Hepp was the only company who actually followed through with a proposal after coming out to property. Two other companies recommended on Angie we never heard from again. The owner of Hepp genuinely seemed to want customer to be happy and was flexible with changes as project ensued. The only caveat is that sometimes things got lost in translation between owner and crew, but they graciously fixed or moved anything till we were happy. Now we have a beautiful new landscaped yard. Definitely would recommend."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

Local building codes don’t specify the number of steps a deck can have before a railing is required, mainly because stair height varies widely. Most areas require decks 30 inches or higher to have a railing. While not exact, that roughly equates to four to seven steps.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

A cedar deck can increase your home's value if the project is executed well. The value added by a deck is influenced by factors such as location, materials, and craftsmanship. In regions with warmer climates, decks are particularly desirable, enhancing outdoor living spaces.

The key to getting the most value out of your investment, both in terms of home value and personal enjoyment, is to make sure your deck is built to exacting standards. You should consult with a professional deck builder to get the best results and the highest ROI.
