"George was very friendly, and we had a good chat. He was very experienced. He not only installed the 2x2 foot drywall in the ceiling but also guided me through buying the right paint, whose colour matched very well with the surrounding ceiling. Furthermore, he painted the drywall area with the paint I bought, and everything looks great. The charge was very reasonable. Before him, I was told by another professional that the whole ceiling needed to be painted to match the color, and that would have cost me a lot more money."

Small jobs welcome

"Bilevel home consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and stairwell with landing. Removed popcorn ceiling, skim coated ceiling and painted 2 coats on ceiling, walls, doors and trim. Moved large pieces of furniture as necessary to complete work. Excellent communication. Coordinated job with homeowner. Protected house items such as carpets, floors, ductwork, kitchen cabinets, etc from debris dust and paint-splatter as necessary. I have worked with many contractors in the past and this was one of the best. Highly recommend and would hire again."

"Davidâ s a great guy! Easy to talk to, got straight to business. FAIR quote. Unlike other contractors he did not make up some absurdly stupid number and wait for me to negotiate. He gave me a good price right off bat and saved me all the bs negotiations. 10/10 recommend and I can promise Iâ ll be using his services whenever I need repairs or upgrades around the house!"

"Blaise Construction LLC is a good, reliable company. I have had the company complete two projects: Exterior concrete repair work, including painting and design, construct, & install a water closet door entrance. Very high quality work from scratch. Fair pricing to match the quality of work. Peter, company representative, is knowledge, particular, and aims to please. He is easily reachable, responds promptly. I highly recommend this company."

"Raheem from Hole in the wall did his thing. He filled in the gaps from where the sloped wall meets the base floor seamlessly. I’m much more confident now that mice will have to find another way, and if they do I’ll make sure to serve them some D-con gourmet poison for them. Raheem definitely adjusted accordingly to the weirdness of the task with ease. I’m a happy client"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The cost to texture drywall depends on whether you want to do the work yourself or hire a professional. The cost of the drywall mud is far lower than labor costs for applying it. The labor cost to spray drywall compound onto a wall is between $0.80 and $1.50 per square foot, while you’ll pay between $1.50 and $2 per square foot for the labor to apply the texture by hand.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

On average, drywall installation costs around $2,000, with a typical range of $400 to $6,000, including materials and labor. The final price depends on several factors. The most significant is the size of the area, as many contractors charge per square foot. Other cost factors include the complexity of the job (e.g., cutting around multiple windows and doors, corners, or curved walls), accessibility, location, the thickness of the drywall, the height of the room, and the desired level of finish. The level of finish can range from simply hanging the drywall to taping and mudding the seams and painting the walls.
