"Our living room used to feel busy and mismatched. Ellen helped us turn this room into a cozy, eclectic space that finally feels like us. She guided us in choosing colors, art, and furniture that reflect our personality — and everything functions beautifully now. The TV is no longer the focus, and the room feels calm and creative. We were so pleased we are hiring her to design a new bathroom for us. So excited to work with her again."

"We think that it would be impossible to find painters who are more skillful, more dedicated to the customer's satisfaction, and easier to work with than the Ultimate Custom Painting team (Rick, Dan, Erik, and Rome). This was the third time that we have hired UCP to do interior work; and we did so because we had such positive experiences the first two times. Once again we were thrilled with the outcome. Our house was built in 1928 with large baseboards and window trim, crown mouldings, lots of nooks and crannies, and (lovely but hard to paint) textured plaster. It is not, in other words, an easy house to paint. On top of that, the areas that UCP painted on this visit hadn't been painted in at least 12 years; there were settlement cracks in the plaster, areas of peeling paint, and lots of prep work required. And prep work, in our view, is what identifies the real professionals. UCP patched plaster, scraped numerous areas where peeling had begun, sanded, primed, repatched, resanded and reprimed as needed. For every hour that they painted they must have spent 4-5 hours in prep work. And did I mention that they did this, to accommodate our crazy schedule, working full days from Friday through Monday (i.e., including Saturday and Sunday) on two successive weekends, arriving promptly first thing in the morning. Indeed, this schedule added a certain complexity to cleanup (since we had, for example, to use the kitchen between visits) but they managed the juggling act with great skill and good humor. The final results is fabulous. Everyone who comes into the house comments on how great everything looks; and we can only smile and agree. We still have some exterior work and a couple of interior rooms to do and there is no doubt that we will call UCP when the time comes. Highly, highly recommended! "

"We were very pleased with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. They were on time for every appointment, came back out to replace broken bulbs, and the house looked great! "
Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts
No, even if you have a vague idea of what you want, it’s a good idea to reach out to a contractor that specializes in outdoor kitchens for assistance. Professionals who have constructed kitchens for other homeowners can not only help you think about the functionality and convenience of your outdoor space—which many homeowners neglect—but they can also help you choose high-quality, durable materials that meet your budget and match the rest of your outdoor space. In fact, it’s often better to contact a contractor and get the ball rolling before you have a solidified plan for your outdoor kitchen.
On average, the cost to hire an interior designer or decorator is approximately $8,200. However, the total price can range widely from $200 for a simple consultation to $65,000 for a comprehensive whole-home design project. Most residential designers charge an hourly rate, typically between $50 and $200 per hour, though this can increase to $500 per hour in high-demand areas.
Several factors influence the final cost, including the size of your home, your location, the quality of decor, and the scope of services required. The price will be higher if services include not just consultation but also implementation, material purchasing, home staging, or digital design mock-ups. It's important to note that these cost estimates generally cover the designer's service fees and do not include the price of materials, furniture, or decor, which can be a significant additional expense.
Yes, most designers tailor plans to fit your budget. Discuss financial constraints during initial consultations.
Yes, there are many different types of chandeliers. The most common styles include candle chandeliers, antler chandeliers, crystal chandeliers, glass chandeliers, modern chandeliers, drum chandeliers, and bowl chandeliers.
Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.
