SKIP's goal is to clean up the litter and educate our youth on solid waste management and hence Schuylkill County will be a better place in which to live and work Schuylkill County is, indeed, Pennsylvania's best kept secret. For those of us who live here, we treasure our responsibility to protect the environment that is Schuylkill County. SKIP coordinates with legislative, governmental and civic organizations throughout Schuylkill County to effect the growth of an environmental ethic among its residents. Although there’s a long list of items you can put in a rented dumpster, several items aren’t allowed. Most dumpster rental companies won’t allow paint cans, refrigerators, medical waste, household cleaners, hot water tanks, oil or fuel, and tires in their dumpsters. However, most let you dump furniture, wood, yard debris, small appliances, excess trash, and construction waste.

Dry, unopened bags of mortar mix can be donated to neighbors, friends, or family who may have use for them. If you want to dispose of mixed mortar, you can dilute the mixture with water and pour it in a remote, unused area of your yard that won’t be affected.

You can’t simply throw your ductwork out with your usual trash because waste management won’t accept especially large or bulky garbage without a prior appointment. Instead, you’ll need to haul it to the dump yourself or hire a service to do it for you. Alternatively, certain types of ducts can be recycled, so contact your local recycling facility to find out if they’ll accept your old ductwork.

Several types of items aren't allowed in roll-off dumpsters. First of all, hazardous materials and hazardous liquids are a no-go. This includes asbestos, oil, wet paint and other materials. Other banned items include batteries, electronics with lithium batteries, propane tanks, tires, and appliances with refrigerants. Some areas have shifting requirements (for instance, certain locations do not allow mattresses), so check with your local regulatory agency.
