It was also a plus that as part of his bid he was able to use concrete block to block up a basement window (it was a hazard when you stepped off the patio directly into window well). He also made me feel comfortable with the procedure they used to jackhammer and pour new concrete over top of the basement (a part of the patio is actually serving as a roof for a small piece of the basement.)
