"Jonathan Fisher started demo of our existing deck the day after Christmas, and for the next two months built us a deck and screened in porch that my wife and I have always dreamed of.  I cannot wait until this crazy winter ends, to start enjoying my deck.
With basically very brief help from his kids when they had time, Jonathan did EVERYTHING himself.  He weathered the terrible snow and cold we just had the last two months, and kept on plugging away.  Jonathan is a true craftsman, and you can tell he really loves what he does.

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

Adding burnt charcoal to your garden beds and plant pots can yield several benefits, but there are risks involved, too. Charcoal, particularly biochar, can enhance soil structure, improve water drainage, and increase nutrient retention. When activated, charcoal provides key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. However, burnt charcoal, especially from briquettes, can inadvertently alter soil's pH levels and become hazardous to plants. Overall, there are better and less risky soil amendments available, such as vermiculite, perlite, or wood chips.

Minor fixes like patching leaks or repainting are DIY-friendly, but structural repairs require professional expertise.

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.

Eco-friendly materials include sustainably-sourced woods, recycled metals, low-VOC paints, and non-toxic sealants, which reduce environmental impact. Using these in repairs promotes sustainability and can improve indoor air quality and overall building health.
