"I can't say enough good things about this company! From the moment I called and spoke with Kolby, I knew it was going to be a great move. He was so helpful and kind and answered all my questions. I got set up with an estimate, and within two days Harvey had given me a fair quote. The day of the move the movers called me 30 minutes prior to arrival (which is excellent protocol) and let me know they'd be there shortly after 9am the morning of. When the crew got there they introduced themselves and got right to work. These young men were exceptional! Quick, efficient, and just a delight to have around. The whole day was just absolutely fantastic. Here's the best part; they were right on the dot with the estimate! Kudos to Harvey for having such a good eye for this. Number one moving company in my book for sure!"

"When They Arrived On My Moving Day , White's Moving & Labor Came With 4 Strong Guys & 1 Female.  The Female Was Small But Very Strong , The Owner Was Very Nice , They All Had On Matching Uniforms , They Wrapped All My Furniture In Blankets & Plastic Wrap. They Loaded My 2 Bedroom Apt. In The Truck 30 Minutes , & Unloaded Even Quicker , I've Never Seen Any Moving Company Work As Quickly & Efficient As White's Moving & Labor.  Their Price Quote Was $200 Less Than Anyone Else In Harrisburg.   I Will Definitely Use Them Again & I Will Recommend Them To Every & Anyone.  A++"

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

You should consider hiring professional movers for moves that seem too daunting, dangerous, or involve large, heavy objects. The larger your home and the longer the distance, the more likely you are to need professional help. A moving service can take the hardest tasks off your plate and reduce the risk of personal injury. However, if you are only moving a few light items, you can save money by moving on your own and renting a truck. Keep in mind that a DIY move requires significant planning and time. A hybrid option is also available, where you hire movers just to lift and transport heavy items to your vehicle.

Yes, in almost all cases, it is worth the investment to hire professional piano movers. Pianos are not only heavy and bulky but are also often expensive and delicate instruments. Attempting to move one yourself poses a significant risk of damage to the piano, your home, and can lead to serious personal injury, especially when navigating stairs. The average cost of hiring professional movers (around $400) is typically much less than the potential cost of repairs, replacement, or medical bills that could result from an unsuccessful DIY move.

There are several effective ways to save money when hiring a moving company, primarily by handling some tasks yourself and being strategic with scheduling. Consider these methods:

  • Pack Your Own Belongings: You can significantly reduce costs by packing and protecting your items yourself. This includes wrapping delicate items, organizing them into boxes, and taping the boxes closed. You can use towels, clothes, and suitcases to pack belongings and protect breakables.

  • Provide Your Own Materials: Source free packing materials from friends and family, or reuse boxes and bubble wrap from a previous move.

  • Schedule Strategically: Book your move well in advance. Rates are often lower if you schedule your move on a weekday during the off-season, which typically runs from October through April.

  • Compare Quotes: Get moving quotes from at least three professional movers in your area. This allows you to compare services and choose the best value.

  • Ask for Discounts: Inquire if the moving company offers any special coupons or deals.

  • Purchase Moving Insurance: Protect your investment by purchasing moving insurance, especially for expensive or antique belongings.

  • Divide the Labor: While you can save money by packing, it's wise to leave the more dangerous and physically demanding work—like loading, unloading, and moving heavy furniture—to the professionals.

Most upright pianos weigh between 500 and 1000 pounds. Other vertical pianos, which are sometimes confused with upright pianos, may be between 200 and 500 pounds. Spinet pianos weigh between 200 and 400 pounds, console pianos are 350 to 450 pounds, and studio pianos are 400 to 500 pounds.

There are different types of moving companies, and you’ll want to look for one that has experience moving houses. Ask them how many houses they’ve moved, how long they’ve been in business, whether they coordinate all of the labor, permits, and subcontractors needed, and what their liability is for any damages incurred.
