"The crew came to the house and modified their way of working to accommodate the tight work space. They were friendly and went above what they had to do by saving my flowers out of my flower bed before they began digging out the space. They answered my questions and explained how things were going. The company owner often checked in by phone and in person to communicate with me regarding the job."

"These Gentlemen just completed a metal roof and seamless gutter install on my home. They were on time even with the weather not always being the best. they completed the work in 3 days . They even stayed late one day to make up for time lost due to the weather. Quality and professionalism was top notch. Cost of the Metal roof was less than having the house re-shingled. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a contractor. they do more than roof replacement as well."

"We came across P&A services on a local neighborhood app and had then remodel our main and half bathroom. Peter and his crew were very professional, listened to our concerns, and were willing to implement our vision. The work was well done and the bathrooms look great!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.

Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.

Envision the type of bar experience you'd like to create for your guests. For example:

  • Does your basement have enough finished space for bar stools or seating?

  • What type of additional lighting would set the tone for the room?

  • Are there basement windows or an HVAC system?

  • Do you need new plumbing in your basement for a proper wet bar?

  • Could you be happy with a built-in wall cabinet bar rather than a full-scale wet bar?

Yes, you can add a door to your basement—it might even be required, depending on building codes in your area and whether or not you’re using the basement as a bedroom. A basement contractor can give you some advice on installation and help you add a door to your basement.

When considering finishing your basement, take into account a few pros and cons:

Pros

  • Can increase the value of your home

  • Separate space from the rest of the house

  • Customize and personalize the basement to suit your needs and style

  • Increase the amount of living space in your home

Cons

  • May not regain enough value to cover the cost of finishing

  • Lack of natural light if it’s below ground level

  • Moisture or flooding can cause costly damage

  • Installing plumbing and electrical can be messy and costly
