"I scheduled  Wilson's Hardware about a week ahead of time.  He arrived on the day that we bought our new home.  We wanted all of the locks re-keyed as soon as we owned the home.  He came out right on time, surveyed our needs and got right to work.  Four locks were re-keyed, and he gave advise on other needs.  All was complete in less than 2 hours.  Terrific service. "

Small jobs welcome

"David is a rare gem. Response time was phenomenal and he was very polite, professional, and it was a pleasure to have him do the job. He restored my old, old pitcher handled door lock, rebuilding it, as well as replacing a rusting Kwickset side door lock and doing a new lock installation to a storage closet."

"Prompt, courteous, very professional, honest, and reasonably priced. Jim was excellent. He did not attempt to sell me anything that was not necessary. I would highly recommend Advanced Lock and Security to anyone needing locksmith services. I will call them again if I need locksmith services in the future. Advanced Lock was great to do business with."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

The cost to hire a locksmith varies depending on the service you need. Consult your locksmith about the price of your requested services before hiring for your repair or installation. Some of the most common types of locksmith services include:

  • Installing deadbolts: $40–$75

  • Rekeying: $80–$160

  • Unlocking your house: $65–$180

  • Changing locks: $50–$200

  • Installing electronic locks: $50–$500

  • Installing smart locks: $200–$800

  • Keyless locks: $50–$300

Smart door locks are safe to use and are usually considered safer than traditional locks with keys. While all electronic devices can be hacked, that doesn’t happen nearly as frequently in real life as people may think. You can also invest in multiple locks of different types for enhanced security so you don’t rely solely on one smart lock.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

One of the best tools for removing a stripped bolt is a handy pair of locking pliers. Locking pliers can usually grip onto screws with a broken, rounded, or stripped head and lock in place so that you can loosen even the most stubborn bolt that would otherwise remain hopelessly jammed.

First thing first: Make sure you’re using the right key. If it’s the correct key for your lock, there are a few reasons why it may not be working, like the key is worn out or the lock is jammed. Try lubricating the lock and pushing the door closed to ensure the mechanisms work correctly. If you’re still locked out, call in for help.
