"SHORT REVIEW: You couldn't ask for a better painter! 2nd job DS Painting did for us and we couldn't be more pleased! DETAILED REVIEW: Derek painted a room for us 8 years ago when we purchased an Angie's List deal for his company. We were so impressed with his work ethic, personality, and the quality of his work that we kept his name on file. We recently moved into an existing home that needed to be completely painted: ceilings, walls, and trim. We were out of Derek's normal service area but took a chance that he would accept the project since it was a whole house. He accepted...YAY! As expected, he and his coworker, Mike, were AMAZING. Every surface of our home was covered with a drop cloth or plastic (cabinets); every outlet cover and register removed; every doorknob, hinge, and light fixture taped or covered so paint would not get on them. We gave Derek a key to the house and stayed out of his way. We were so pleased with the progress. We found out that Derek does tile work, so we asked him to also add a tile backsplash in our kitchen. That turned out great as well. The only evidence that they were even there was the BEAUTIFUL paint and backsplash: They cleaned everything up and even vacuumed the floors before they left. I will be saving up and trying to get enough work together to convince Derek to come out to us one more time for bathroom tile and anything else that he does. Honestly the best contractor (painting or otherwise) that I have had the pleasure of working with. Thank you, Derek and Mike!"

"The quote process was efficient and clear from the beginning. Keith, the painter did a great job at repairing nail pops, nail holes, cracks, etc. He also did a great job painting all of the areas especially the high ceiling above the stairwell. We are very pleased with the entire process and have already recommended CertaPro to others."

Small jobs welcome

"Excellent communications between the vendor and me, as well as with his workers. The scope of work was clearly defined, as were the costs. As with most home maintenance projects, there can be a surprise or two; these were handled graciously and effectively. I am picky about paint work, and the quality of the crown molding installation as well as all of the painting was beautiful - not one brush mark in the glossy crown molding. It was a pleasure working with Hayes Painting, Inc., and I would surely hire them again, as well as recommend them to others. I would also say that Mr. Hayes treats his employees with respect and provides a mentoring environment with younger workers, while not micro-managing his experienced workers. It was a pleasure to have these people in my home."

Customers say: Quality work

"We are thrilled with the work we had done. Marlon wallpapered a high wall (cathedral ceiling) and it came out perfectly. The seams are invisible and the pattern is matched perfectly, even on the light switches he covered. Marlon also caulked and painted in our den and that job is also outstanding. He will be doing other work for us in the future."

"First class. First off, I contacted Rez on a whim after looking at Home Advisor and Angie's List. We have people we know to do the work we needed, but they could do it for us on our timeline, unfortunately. I had a few estimates done by painting companies (large and small) and I contacted Rez not really expecting much...to begin, Rez communicates at a much higher level than companies. He's personable and efficient via text. Next, his estimates came in lower than the businesses...my wife and I decided to take a chance and figured it would have to be better than what we currently had in our house. My Lord...I wish I could post pictures. Rez took eight days to transform a family room with a popcorn/textured ceiling and wall paneling from the 1970's. After two coats of primer, two coats of joint compound, two coats of primer again, and two coats of paint, our new room is beyond words...my wife and I were speechless. It is AMAZING. We then had Rez paint our kitchen and redo our cabinets. We had oak cabinets from the 1970's. Rez took a week to completely transform our kitchen...painting, new hardware, repositioned door pulls, etc. Aside from completely gutting our kitchen, this is above and beyond what we ever imagined. We are pretty detailed people and I can assure you that Rez exceeded all of our expectations. He was punctual, friendly, extremely neat, and very thorough. We even had him whitewash our fireplace. Beautiful. Honestly, I cannot even explain how awesome the experience was...10/10 and no looking back. Sometimes you just get lucky in life...we certainly did when we took a chance and hired Rez. We have guys/contractors that we know personally, but we didn't want to wait for them to get to us on the side...my wife and I already said that.Rez will be the first person we contact moving forward. No questions asked. Please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to speak to the quality and experience working with Rez on our projects."

Painting questions, answered by experts

You can paint an old wooden fence, but make sure first to do a deep clean (ideally with a pressure washer) and inspect the fence for any existing damage. Painting over dirt and debris will cause your paint to peel. Once you’ve cleaned and repaired any minor issues, use a primer and high-quality satin paint.

If you paint a vinyl fence, it will likely stick to it for only a brief amount of time. This is because vinyl is not a porous material, so it's not an ideal surface for holding paint. Initially, paint will stick to your fence, but it will eventually peel off. Applying primer before painting your vinyl fence will help paint last longer. Certain primers are well-suited to vinyl, which means you can paint vinyl siding with the proper preparation.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.
