"Steve has excellent customer service skills. He keeps you informed, reminds you of when he’s coming, is very prompt, is very neat and clean and extremely quiet when he works. He helped me choose lighting fixtures and assisted in my design for the bathroom and kitchen lights. A veteran and very courteous. He installed ceiling fans that other electricians told me couldn’t be done without major reconstruction to hang the fans. Solid work!! Fans are quiet, level, light are great! Thanks Steve!"

"I had an excellent experience working with ZVL on my basement remodel. Ivan and his team were outstanding from start to finish. Communication was always clear and timely, and the entire project stayed within the budget outlined in the original proposal, which is rare and greatly appreciated. Ivan did a great job walking me through each phase of the project, offering thoughtful options and practical suggestions along the way. He truly listened to what I wanted and helped refine the ideas into something even better than I originally envisioned. In the end, he and his team brought the concept to life exactly as promised. I would absolutely recommend ZVL to anyone looking for a reliable, professional contractor who takes pride in their work and delivers on what they say they will do."

"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"I Had a phenomenal experience with John and his team. I had called to get an estimate and see if what I visioned was possible and John not only got right back to me but within a timely manner they were ready to start! The team was very polite and accommodating to my schedule and expectations. John was patient with last minute changes on my end and didn’t treat me as a customer but a friend. The remodel turned out better than I had imagined and I am still in disbelief how my home looks! I will 100% be calling them again when I’m ready to tackle the basement renovation!"

"I just bought a home in the Poconos the Master Bath needed to be completely remodeled. You can't get a better design/contractor than Robert. I didn't know him until he came at night to help discuss what I wanted. I was an Executive for 30 years so had a fair understanding of what is truthful or just a sales pitch. I design/built my first home so I had some experience which makes me credible. Robert is one of the last old European craftsman. Price was extremely fair . He did more than any other quotes and fixed issues without charge. He did all the work Bath Fitters would not do for less less financially. Also he went out of his way to point out issues and important urgent/ issues and measurements in my home. Most contractors wouldn't take the time for the detail. He far exceeded my expectations. His eye to detail was old school, measured everything princely. No issues through the complete renovations. I was very fortunate that I selected him and he agreed to to on my project which you can see on his site before and after. It's exactly what I wanted but you have to come to the table with your ideas to get started. He is the best contractor I ever worked with,"

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

Costs vary depending on project complexity and scope. Architects generally charge a percentage of the total budget or an hourly rate for their services.

Expect excavation below grade, creating a well for access, weatherproofing, and thorough inspections during setup.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.

Stone, marble, and brick are common building materials of Neoclassical architecture, though you will also find wood flooring and a range of natural stone tiles. Since several home styles fall under Neoclassical architects' umbrella, a range of building materials—including traditional wood framing—will make an appearance.
