Small jobs welcome

"Desmond was responsive to my initial phone call, came to my house to measure and completely explained the process of installation of glass block windows in my basement. I wanted the installation of a glass block window with a hopper vent and another glass block window CUSTOMIZED to receive a vent that we made which was similar to a dryer vent. Desmond took our thoughhts to his window manufacturer, then followed with our CUSTOMIZED VENT to have it incorporated into a the glass block window. His window manufacturer did a perfect job in making the window to our specifications. Once the windows were made, Desmond came and installed them as planned. His work was quality in nature, reasonably priced and completed in a timely manner. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend Desmond for window replacement to anyone!!!"

"The job was scheduled and executed in an excellent, professional and efficient manner. Further, the whole experience with the original contact and the craftsman ( Alex ) actually exceeded our expectations with the ease of the total service. The price and time frame considerably beat the other estimates by days and cost. Alex was respectful of our household and was very open explaining exactly what he was going to do. The double hung window was popped out and the double pane was replaced within an hour in his mobile workshop. Fascinating how quickly and efficient this was completed compared what other glass competitors offered. They will be our “go to” company for any future needs, additionally I would highly recommend them to our friends and neighbors: A+ !! Lifetime warranty was included. Using Angie’s List certainly is worthwhile :-) ( 5% discount was acknowledged too)"

Glass Block Windows questions, answered by experts

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.

Options include tempered, laminated, and tinted glass for various needs.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.
