"Yes, I hired a pro from House Appliance Repairs and was able to schedule a time only two days from when I made the request to fix my GE gas clothes dryer which was not heating. The repair man arrived promptly on time, diagnosed the problem and replaced a couple of coils on the gas control valve using a parts kit that he had in his van. He vacuumed up the dust on the interior of the unit. After reassembling and testing the dryer, he was done, just 50 minutes after he arrived. I would recommend this repair company to anyone who asked me about appliance repairs."

"I called for repair on my washer, and was able to get a service call the next day. Zach was amazing! He was very thorough, calling me prior to coming out to confirm the problem. He went the extra mile to try and obtain the necessary parts for repair ahead of his visit, and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He stayed to run the washer through a cycle to make sure everything was as it should be, and I could not be happier with this experience. I highly recommend this company, and especially Zach, for any of your appliance repair needs. You will not be disappointed!"

"I inquired about help needed on a malfunctioning, under the counter ice maker. Lenny responded that very evening, set up an appointment for the next morning (a Saturday), diagnosed the problem and ordered parts needed for repair. Lenny showed me everything, explained what was happening and gave me several options if I wanted to proceed. While parts were in transit, Lenny communicated often, and when they arrived, we set up a follow up to finish the repair. Lenny was personable, very informative, professional, clean and took great care of my appliance and my home. I thought his pricing was very reasonable and I highly recommend Lenny Handyman, LLC for any projects you need help on,."

Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

It can be less expensive to buy kitchen appliances in a bundle compared to the price of buying each appliance at a separate store or on different occasions. That’s because some retailers offer discounts averaging around 10% to 20% for appliance bundles. Plus, you could increase the savings if you purchase appliances in a bundle during holiday sales or other discount events.

You should never plug a normal 120v appliance into a special 240v outlet, as it can quickly burn out the appliance. This will cause irreparable damage to the appliance and, in worse case scenarios, cause damage to your circuit breaker. Check your appliance’s rating before plugging it into a 220v outlet to avoid electrical disaster.

If you don’t want to use dishwasher pods, you can use liquid or powder dishwasher detergent or dishwasher tablets. Alternatively, you can make a DIY dish detergent by putting two or three drops of liquid dishwashing soap in the dispenser and filling the rest with baking soda. You should never use laundry detergent, household all-purpose cleaners, or a full dispenser of liquid dish detergent.

When considering how to dispose of other appliances, a landfill is also usually not an option. The biggest difference is that electrical appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, or dishwashers aren’t as easy to transport as a portable microwave. Some local councils offer bulky uplift services (although a fee may apply), scrap metal recyclers might pick yours up, trade-in options on big items are more common, and some utility companies offer incentivized recycling programs.

You’ll need to unhook your old appliance but once you do, you can recycle it, donate it, sell it, reuse it, trade it in, or give it as a gift (provided it still works or is easy to fix). Most of the time when people are switching their appliances it’s either because the old one broke or they are upgrading. If the item is broken, the best option is to recycle it. This may carry a cost based on the appliance or its weight. If the appliance still works, you may choose to sell it or gift it. What you do with your old appliance ultimately comes to whether it’s still functioning.
