Insurance companies will often take pictures of your house to confirm property details before issuing a policy or after receiving a claim. The insurance company may keep these photos on hand to compare to later pictures if you make a claim. It’s common for an insurance company to send someone to photograph the exterior of your home and your property without notifying you in advance. However, they’ll need to let you know ahead of time if they need to take interior pictures.

Yes, your homeowners insurance can cover water damage. Just how much your plan covers depends on the company and plan you chose, so read the fine print of your homeowners insurance plan to see how much your insurance company might cover, document the damage, and contact them to submit a claim and have an assessor inspect the damage.

Using your realtor’s inspector may potentially speed up the home-buying process in that realtors are unlikely to recommend someone they’ve had prior difficulties with regarding scheduling or report turnaround time. There are other factors to consider, though—you don’t want a rushed inspection or a partial report. It’s more important that you work with a home inspector who can do a thorough assessment and explain any issues to you clearly.

There are a few key differences between wind mitigation and four-point inspections. Wind mitigation inspections focus on a single aspect of your home (its ability to withstand high winds). In contrast, four-point inspections assess multiple parts of your house (roofing, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC). Despite this, wind mitigation and four-point inspections cost about the same amount.

Since radon typically comes out of the soil, it is most commonly found in the lower levels of a home. In houses with basements, that's a common location for radon. Homes built directly on the ground may have radon on the ground floors. Radon can be found on the upper floors of the home, but often in lower concentrations than in lower levels.
