"Tim is the consummate professional. He's very thorough in his inspection, and he writes clear reports with excellent pictures. His report on the termite damage was much better than that done by our original inspector. He explained everything he found so I felt like I had a good picture of what needed to be done. When he returned, my contractor was so impressed with him that he took his contact information to refer him to future customers who needed engineering reports."

Alltech Inspection Services has been serving our neighbors for over 25 years. We provide thorough, professional inspection services. We are fully insured and members of ASHI, NACHI and GREI. We are A+ members of the Better Business Bureau. We accept personal checks, business checks, money orders and most major credit cards.

"We had them complete our pre closing inspection. They missed that the chimney was severely damaged and needs replaced entirely. This is a huge expense and instead of living up to their $10,000 garauntee (which still wouldn't cover the cost but would certainly help) they simply fell off with communication. I've had two chimney companies agree. The guy never even got up on the roof."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The standard thickness for an LVL beam is between 1.75 inches and 7 inches. However, you can order LVL beams in non-standard sizes as well. When you work with a contractor, they can source beams that are the appropriate size for your project for you after assessing your blueprints.

Many horizontal cracks in home foundations result from water and soil pressure from outside of the building or from a footing that is shifting. Under those circumstances, horizontal cracks are a structural problem that requires repair before they become worse and more difficult to fix. However, in very specific cases, thin horizontal cracks may simply be a cosmetic blemish due to concrete shrinkage.

Hiring a structural engineer costs about $550 on average. However, prices range from as low as $200 up to $1,500. Structural engineers may charge by project, hourly, or by the square footage, making it important to understand how your chosen engineer structures their estimates. Additional cost factors include project type, the scope of work, the size of the project, and your geographic location.

Stone, marble, and brick are common building materials of Neoclassical architecture, though you will also find wood flooring and a range of natural stone tiles. Since several home styles fall under Neoclassical architects' umbrella, a range of building materials—including traditional wood framing—will make an appearance.

It's safe to assume that all exterior walls are load-bearing, or at least have load-bearing characteristics. Some older homes feature porches or bump-outs that don't rest on the home's foundation. However, they still must carry the weight of the roof section they support. Walls containing floor-to-ceiling glass or other non-structural elements must use post and beam configurations to meet load-bearing criteria.
