"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"I highly recommend Modern Image Contracting. Nate came out and took his time explaining the process in a way I could understand and we decided on a path that best worked for our home and our budget. He was very professional and did a beautiful job. I will be hiring him for all future projects! He did an exceptional job."

"Jacob and his crew did a good job on the demo and reconstruction of our garage, which was destroyed by a fallen tree. Job was done as quoted and the quality of work was excellent. Will definitely have them do additional projects as needed. I would recommend to anyone needing an honest, hard working contractor."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Security experts recommend deadbolt locks as the most secure option for a house's exterior or entry doors. Deadbolts provide the best security because they can prevent most types of forced entry and are harder to lockpick. Common types include the standard single-cylinder deadbolt, which is often found on front doors. For enhanced security, you can opt for a double-cylinder deadbolt, which requires a key to operate from both the inside and the outside.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

Smart locks offer a similar level of safety to traditional or conventional locks because they often use comparable locking mechanisms, such as deadbolts. The primary difference is the access method: smart locks use a login or code instead of a physical key, which adds convenience. While not inherently safer, some smart locks have added security features that can deter intruders, like shutting down after too many incorrect code attempts or being harder to pick. For the best security, it's recommended to combine any lock with other home safety features like motion-activated lighting, security cameras, and window and door sensors.

A door lock service is performed by a professional locksmith, and the cost of hiring a locksmith for these kinds of repair tasks usually runs in the $100 to $250 range. It all depends on the type of locks you have, how many locks are included in the service, and where your home is located. Always choose reliable, trustworthy locksmiths, and get a few quotes before making your choice.

Deadbolts are solid and durable as can be, but the pin and tumbler can still be forced open, thus making this type of lock susceptible to picking. Most types of deadbolts are harder to pick than a traditional spring-based lock, though. It requires a specialized lock pick and a tension wrench to align all of the pins, thus unlocking the door.
