"Technician arrived on time and was very courteous and knowledgeable. He had to totally replace a broken lock and he rekeyed the other locks. He patiently took time to show me how one of the more complicated locks worked. Additionally, he helped to recode the automatic garage door opener and associated remotes. I was very impressed with the technician's ability, especially since he told me that he had only been working for the company a few months! You never would have known it! Highly recommend this company!"

"We highly recommend Mr. Anderson. He repaired a 15-light pocket door and built and installed a drawer in a built-in desk located in our home office. He is an expert in his trade. He is courteous, professional, competent and service oriented. We have also hired Mr. Anderson to do some painting for us in the future and we look forward to a long-standing relationship with Mr. Anderson."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"JW has the best technicians that get the work done. Pedro Yac was the technician who completed the work. He was thorough and completed each of the jobs with perfection. He was very professional, pleasant and a hard worker. Jesse Werkjes, when giving the estimate, was helpful in suggesting a couple of things that I would not have through of which was much appreciated."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

You might assume that having two locks on one door will offer more protection than only one lock, but there may not be an advantage. While there’s nothing wrong with having two locks if you feel it’s best for your living situation, rest assured having one high-quality deadbolt installed correctly will offer a high level of protection.

Smart locks offer a similar level of safety to traditional or conventional locks because they often use comparable locking mechanisms, such as deadbolts. The primary difference is the access method: smart locks use a login or code instead of a physical key, which adds convenience. While not inherently safer, some smart locks have added security features that can deter intruders, like shutting down after too many incorrect code attempts or being harder to pick. For the best security, it's recommended to combine any lock with other home safety features like motion-activated lighting, security cameras, and window and door sensors.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.

Rekeying a lock changes the internal mechanism so that a new key works, while replacing a lock involves swapping out the entire hardware. Rekeying is a good, cost-effective option when you want to ensure old keys no longer work, such as after moving into a new home or losing a key. It's also ideal if you want to keep your existing lock hardware. You should opt to replace the locks entirely if you want to upgrade to a more secure or different style of lock, if the current lock is old or damaged, after a break-in, or if too many copies of the old key exist.
