"I came home one day and was unable to turn on the lights in either the kitchen or dining room lights. Flipped the breaker switch several times and each time it shut itself off when attempting to turn lights on. Called Strickland Electric, had to leave a message. Call was returned within the hour, I explained the issue and was advised not to attempt turning the lights on again as there could be a serious issue and the breaker shutting off was preventing further damage. We scheduled an appointment for a couple days later, I was a bit disappointed because I wanted it handled ASAP. I received a call the next afternoon stating a technician was in my area and could come by if I were available. I notified my son at home and when I called back 20 mins. later to see if the technician arrived, my son informed me not only had he arrived but he identified the problem, explained to my son, replaced the switch on the circuit breaker and had already left. Needless to say I was completely satisfied."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering whether an electrical panel in the bathroom needs to be moved, the answer is yes. Due to the risks of shocks and electrical fires, electrical panels cannot be located in bathrooms per National Electric Code Volume 70. Additionally, gasses, vapors, liquids, and temperature fluctuations can all compromise the functionality of your electrical panel, so it’s important to install it in a dry, cool, safe, and easily accessible location.

Yes, many providers offer wiring upgrades as part of their services. Confirm with your contractor.

Automatic gates don’t use too much electricity, and you should see a minimal effect on your utility bill. In fact, certain gate systems are entirely self-sufficient and rely on solar panels attached to or near the gate to power the motor. While a gate is large and there is a powerful motor moving it, it’s not something that sees constant use throughout the day. For most automatic gates, expect to see a utility bill increase of only around $10 per month.

Smart glass doesn’t use a lot of electricity, and you can expect a standard window to add between $1 and $2 per year to your electric bills. Smart glass is proof that energy-efficient windows work. Although your smart windows may consume a little energy to operate, they can save enough energy to offset the costs. If you’re concerned about the minimal bump to your electricity consumption, you can opt for smart tint, which doesn’t require electricity to work.

In many cases, yes, upgrading your electrical panel can lower your electric bill. Upgrading an outdated electrical panel can make your home more energy-efficient, so you consume less electricity and spend less on utility bills. However, to see these savings, you’ll need to invest quite a bit. On average, installing a new electrical panel costs $1,200 to $2,000, with most people paying around $1,600.
