Jason, the 20-something millennial that my lousy home warranty company sent to do this job, apparently doesn't think that having a dryer on a 50 amp circuit breaker is a fire hazard. In fact, he actually thought that it was good that it was wired like this. Given that he doesn't know basic electrical stuff which a 2 second Google search can answer, I threw him out of my house after he charged me $100 just to replace another GFCI outlet, which I could have done myself. He also tried to charge me $77 for a landscape lighting photocell, which I had already purchased for $15 on Amazon. DO NOT HIRE THESE AMATEURS!
Response from Overly's Electrical Services Inc

"I am the tech that was at your house on this day and the owner I have been in business over 20 years so i am not some 20 something guy. your dryer was wired on a 30 amp double pole breaker it did have a 50 amp dryer cord and receptacle which is not dangerous because it is wired to a 30 amp breaker so anything over 30 amp will trip the breaker I did not want to take your money and give you something you did not need because your home warranty company was not paying to fix this which is not my call that is the home warranty company . Maybe if you were up and talking to me instead of your wife I could have also explained that to you. As far as the $100.00 that is for you and your home warranty company to deal with there is a service call fee that all service providers charge and someone has to pay that with your coverage you are responsible for that this is the coverage you pay for with your home warranty. As far as the photocell yes the price is correct that also pays for all my overhead which is calculated into the price. You got the GFCI for free because that was not on the original work order for the home warranty company so they were not covering this. So should a service tech in a van in uniform come out and work for free?"

When I originally called for the app't, I told them I had replaced an electrical outlet, which I have in the past, however, I didn't have any electric in same after hooking it up. The breaker switch was tripped. I had three other outlets in the same room which also did not have electricity. BTW, I hooked it up exactly the same way as the old one. I wasn't sure if I had a bad circuit breaker, the reason I called them. The outlet was still out of the wall that I hooked up. When two men came, I told them right away about the outlet and maybe I didn't hook it up correctly as I was told after the fact that the new outlets are wired differently. The one guy went right to the outlet, said and quot;yes, you have it wired wrongand quot;. He hurried and switched the two wires, told his buddy to turn on the breaker, which I could have done because I had to go with him to show him where it was. i then asked if they could use their little adapter to check if the other two outlets were working. I then said and quot;how much do I owe youand quot;, thinking, if anything, at the most $50.00. The guy said he would have to call his boss. He came right back and said and quot;$160.00and quot;!!!!! I questioned him regarding the outrageous price. he said and quot;that is what we charge for trouble shootingand quot;. In my opinion, there was no trouble shooting, I showed him the outlet in question. The time the two men were at my place was no more than 5 minutes.!! I was very upset, I called Jason, the owner, and he said and quot;well, you also have to pay my guy for writing up your billand quot;????? I was floored with that comment to say the least. After arguing price with him, he said he would take $30.00 off my bill and I said I would be willing to pay $80.00, which in my opinion was too high. Still the bill would have been $130.00, very unreasonable for the work performed. He said he was in this business for the money!! It was never resolved, he cashed my check. Price gouging at its best!!!!!

Jason and his assistant arrived promptly and conducted themselves very professionally while they were at our home. They checked our two kitchen outlets and also their corresponding breakers at the breaker box, and determined that the problem was our surge protector not having enough power. That was what was making our microwave short out. Jason then told us about installing a whole-house surge protector on our breaker box, and that would prevent any short-outs and would eliminate the need for any external surge protectors in the first place. We agreed that he should install it, and in the time it took to talk about it -- about 10 minutes -- his assistant had installed it professionally and quickly. Both Jason and his assistant were very friendly and congenial and got the job done. We talked about some other jobs we wanted to have done in the future and Jason sent us an estimate within a half hour after he left. We will likely hire him again.

Jason called to let me know he was on his way.  He and his assistant put on booties over their shoes when they came into my house.  They were polite and very efficient.  Getting into my attic isn't easy, but they never complained.  The job was a bit more complicated than anticipated because of the age of the old fan, but they dealt with it, and the price was still what was quoted.  I haven't needed an electrician in years, but I'll call Overly Electrical if I need one again.  He was knowledgeable and professional.

Response from Overly's Electrical Services Inc

"This was an estimte with a lot of digging and moving of river rock we may have priced a little high because we thought it would take more time but sometimes we are wrong. i beleive this is why all homeowners should get at leasrt three estimates."

Jason was polite and respectful on the phone and with my elderly father. Dad is used to doing for himself, but can no longer do so for health reasons. However, he still tends to tinker, and Jason was very understanding about that. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
