"The first time we have hired anyone to do remodeling for us and we hit the jackpot! Showed up on time every day if we had any questions he answered and kept the bathroom project on budget. "Great work. Moved most of the heavy items in the basement, epoxy finish looks amazing. Third floor room went from blue, orange, purple and lime green child's room to a neutral any age bedroom. They tinted the primer for best coverage of old color, two coats of paint. Instead of just touching up the baseboards as we agreed, they repainted them completely so the finish would look better. This is the second job they've done for us. Wonderful company!

"We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work performed. We had such a positive experience with O’Dell Contracting Inc. on a recent major home repair job that we immediately contracted with them to replace the roof on our 27 year old house. I recommend O’Dell Contracting Inc. without reservation! It has been my experience that Dean O’Dell takes an active interest in making sure that home remodeling work is done in a quality manner."

"The project went better than any home project we’ve had so far (and we’ve had A LOT of home projects)! This is a company that cares about their name, the work, and the homeowners. With a culture like this, its easy to see why the process goes smoothly. They check in regularly throughout to make sure the work is getting scheduled quickly, then they check in to make sure the work is satisfactory and as planned and then they check in to make sure the work was completed as planned. Really, a fantastic company we’d work with again!"

Basement Remodel FAQs, answered by experts

Building up by adding square footage to the top of your home is often less expensive than adding a basement, but it depends on the specifics of your house, your property, and supply costs. Because building a basement requires excavation, it can be a more expensive option than building up.

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Basements are commonly converted into game rooms. The potential challenges you may run into include controlling moisture, working with low ceilings, limited natural light, and the need for additional electrical or HVAC work. Addressing these issues can add to the total cost, but it ensures a comfortable and functional space.

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

Yes. Renovating your basement has a return on investment (ROI) of 75%, meaning your remodel investment will significantly increase the value of your home. Besides the ROI, your family can enjoy a larger, more usable space while you live there.
