"We were quoted $329.16 to have the water heater sensor installed, less a $100 coupon that we had purchased on Angies List for $39. We thought that seemed a bit high but, proceeded anyway thinking we were already out $39 and this was something that we really wanted to have done. We were then quoted $908 to have the outside faucet installed. Except for having to drill through a cinder block wall, the job did not seem that complicated. The water line was running along an inside wall, and we had already purchased the necessary faucet. When asked why it was so expensive, my wife was told "because it is plumbing". We declined having the faucet installed. Although the technician was very professional and courteous, we would hesitate to recommend this company, because of what we felt were excessive prices being quoted. We also would hesitate to pre-purchase any services through Angies List without knowing what the total cost would be before the technician arrives. We thought we were getting a bargain price to check out a company that we could possibly develop a long term relationship with. Instead we felt we were overcharged and somewhat taken advantage of since we had already paid for part of the job through Angies List."

"they camera the line and installed a liner from my basement wall to the street main line. Each crew was professional (digging and installed junction pipe, the next installed liner, the next came back to refill hole and concrete to grade). All done in 2 days, it was expensive but lower than another company I called. Nice fellas, the girl I was in contact with for questions and billing was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Hoping I never have a problem again!"

"Will and Rob showed up at the house and the appointed time and started right at it. The old a/c, furnace, duct work, wiring, and gas line were gone in no time. When they started the install, took their time to get everything perfect. Constantly checking for level and plum of all units, ducts, plumbing, and even wiring. Explained what was going on and why they were doing what they were doing. Both Will and Rob very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about HVAC. I worked in the plumbing wholesale for 20 years, so I know a bit about was going on. The new technology is amazing. They installed a 96 percent efficient furnace with a 16 seer a/c unit by Amana. Came with a lifetime warranty on the a/c compressor and furnace heat exchanger, the two main components.
They did an excellent job. All the old units were taken away and site was completely cleaned cleaner than before they started. Will even filled out the rebate form from the electric company for me.
I will definitely hire Giant again and again!

"We recently had to replace our outdated furnace and also decided to add AC at the same time. We contacted Air Pure, Inc for a free estimate and the entire process was extremely smooth and professional. The estimate was very thorough with detailed explanations and write-up. The offer was competitive and we decided to go with Air Pure based on this, their reputation, and the professionalism of the presentation. The work was scheduled promptly and the installers were fantastic. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous and the work was completed on time, as promised. There was no garbage or debris left behind. The quality of the workmanship for the furnace and AC install was clearly evident and they took the time to review everything they did as well as show us how to operate all the new components. There are a lot of choices out there but we highly recommend that you consider Air Pure for your Heating & AC needs."

"After some research we asked Climatech to give us an estimate for a replacement for both the air conditioner and the furnace. The old furnace was an American Standard and we asked for an American Standard, in place, replacement, assuming a same brand replacement would be easiest. Mike Horner, Climatech's Residential Comfort Specialist, arrived on time for a scheduled appointment to give us an estimate . He had been an installer previously so was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of most systems. We discussed several options. I wanted a simple system, easy to maintain (and repair should that be needed), without a lot of bells and whistles. He was great in working with me to find that kind of solution. One point he made was that he was always available for answering questions even out of normal working hours, and he was. He provided an initial estimate and then after emails and phone calls quickly provided several more estimates as I firmed up what I wanted. The interaction with Mike was great. I checked his proposals against the cost of the components I found on line and the work required, and his proposals were reasonable and the company was big enough to back up their work. We settled on an American Standard AUH18080 95% efficient, 80,000 btu single stage gas furnace, an American Standard Silver 13 SEER 3 ton outdoor condensing unit, a matching high efficiency evaporator coil and a Honeywell Wifi thermostat. The cost was $6350. with 1/2 paid up front and 1/2 paid after installation. Setting up the installation was easy. Jennifer coordinates all the residential work and she made sure the installation worked into our schedule. Since they are a large company they can be quite flexible. The replacement took 2 days, a Friday and a Monday. A crew of 2, Ron and Jesse, arrived at the appointed time (they worked 8am to 2pm), They took away the existing units, and installed the new units. They made changes necessary to fit the new units into the existing ductwork, and to drain the condensation from the new units properly. They drilled holes through the brick walls required by the new efficient units. To install the air conditioner they needed to go into our neighbors' yard and they were respectful of both their yard and ours. At several points during the installation I had questions and suggestions and they were very open to discussion. After the first day they cleaned up and did not leave material lying around over the weekend. They did listen to the radio while working but unlike most workmen who have the radio blaring and disturbing the whole community, they played it very low so it was only audible in the basement area. I was impressed with how well they installed things like the the drain tube which was run across the basement ceiling with fasteners at close intervals and a hard plastic tube into our wash sink, and the way they plastered around the exhaust and intake vent going through our brick wall. Instead of round corners, as others might have done, they made it have square corners so it almost looked like a brick with a hole in it. They did a very professional job. It's interesting how many skills the installers must have. They know about the furnace and the air conditioners of course, but they must also run wire and install electrical boxes, run drain lines and consider plumbing options, must drill through walls and repair walls, and must flatten landscape and prune bushes to place outside air conditioning. After the installation they went over the system with me including the new electrical connections, thermostat operation, furnace operation, etc. I would recommend this company and their team to others."

"I was impressed with the efficiency and craftsmanship with which they installed two mini-split air conditioners in my house. I plan on using them to design and install central air in an addition that I'm building to my house and would enthusiastically recommend Kad Heating and Cooling to anyone in need of a system!"

"I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it worked out great. They had to come back because they did not have the filter in stock. They also had to clean more ducts than were covered in the Big Deal so, altogether, it cost an additional $700. They took before and after pictures of the inside of the vents and showed me, but I did not get to keep any. I thought that was extra good. The employee who came out was completely professional and easy to get along with. I thought it was great."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Scale from hard water is hard to diagnose until it starts causing problems. If your area has particularly hard water, that’s most likely what your boiler is using. If scale build-up becomes a problem, it starts to cause decreased flow and heating, and eventually, valve failures as valves become blocked. Let boiler professionals know if you’re worried about scale and they can offer advice or implement a solution.

Boilers are equipped with multiple safety features to ensure safe operation. These include pressure relief valves to prevent overpressure, temperature high-limit switches to avoid overheating, and flame failure safety devices in gas boilers to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out unexpectedly. Low water cutoffs prevent operation with insufficient water levels, and pressure gauges help monitor pressure levels. Ventilation and flue systems prevent the buildup of harmful gasses. Boilers often feature error code systems for automatic shutdown during malfunctions and gas leak detection for safety. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure these safety features function correctly.

Generally, an oil furnace is considered safer than a gas furnace for several reasons. While both types of furnaces can produce carbon monoxide, a leak in an oil furnace is easier to detect due to the smell. Oil furnaces also don't connect to a gas pipeline, which reduces the chance of a fuel leak. Most importantly, heating oil is not combustible, whereas natural gas is highly flammable. This means there is a much lower risk of combustion or explosion with an oil furnace. However, an oil furnace can still pose a fire hazard if it tips over.

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

In some cases, conversion kits are available, but not all boilers are compatible. Conversion may require significant modifications and should only be performed by a qualified professional. Before making a decision, compare conversion costs to the cost of a complete replacement to determine the most cost-effective and reliable option for your home.
