Customers say: Quick response

"I highly recommend Jennifer Lewis, who has designed our master bedroom custom closet and our living room wall unit. She is a great collaborator, highly consultative, and brought so many great ideas. We are in love with our wall unit. Because of the pandemic, there were issues getting some of the components fabricated, so there were delays and the work required three separate installation dates. Other than the delays and very spotty communication from Closet Factory regarding the delays, the project went well and the wall unit is gorgeous. Despite having to hound them for updates, I would definitely do business with them again. And I'd ask for Jennifer every time. She's fantastic."

"They came when they said they would and worked VERY hard to finish when they said they would. This is our only full bath so we were anxious to get it done. We agreed on a price in the beginning and Willie did not go over that, even though some unexpected things came up. He is a professional and likes to see his customers happy. We LOVE our new bathroom!!"

"This was my second time using this service and it was OUTSTANDING! The woman who came was prompt, friendly and a very thorough worker. I have issues with allergies and this visit she tackled all of the bookcases, desk area, computer cabinet, the high kitchen shelves where I display several decorative items, and more. She is very careful when she handles any of my "treasures". So far she is concentrating on all of the areas in my home that never get addressed during the superficial weekly cleaning we try to do ourselves. We have set up more visits to get everything deep cleaned before we go on a regular thorough cleaning schedule. I'm looking forward to her next visit."

Small jobs welcome

"I reached out to the contractor and the communication was excellent! He was able to translate my ideas into an actionable plan and execute the build within the allotted timeframe. During the process, my asks continued to evolve and change and he communicated the impact on the project timelines when necessary. That is more important than many people will realize. As a business, a delay in the timeline can be costly. Historically, my experience with contractors has been hit or miss with more on the miss side. But thankfully that wasn't the case with SCS."

"Friendly, knowledgeable. Came to home twice. Once for estimate and again to do the work. Called both times to say they would be late. First visit 1.5 hours late. Second visit an hour late."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Hanging and folding clothes are efficient ways to pack your clothes during a move. When choosing a packing method, consider the type of clothing you’re packing. For example, clothing such as dresses, suits, blouses, and items made of silk and similar fabrics are ideal for hangers. On the other hand, it’s easier to fold pants, shorts, t-shirts, thick sweaters, and more.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

Built-in furniture maximizes space, offers a tailored look, and enhances room functionality.

A foyer or entryway is typically a formal landing area for guests, located at the primary entrance of a home. It is often more formally decorated and connects directly to the main living space. In contrast, a mudroom is a more casual, utilitarian room, usually leading in from a secondary entrance like a garage or the side or rear of the house. It serves as a space for residents to remove shoes and outerwear to keep mud, dirt, and water out of the main home.
