"We've used Crystal Clean and they have always done a wonderful job of cleaning our house. We own some rental property and we had Ed and his crew do the cleaning on a condo. The place was not in the greatest of shape and they did a great job it turned out to a lot better than I expected especially the bathrooms."

"Ryan, the cleaning technician, was knowledgeable and did the job in record time. He is personable, and quite the salesman. He told me about all of the other services the company offers. I will definitely use them again!!"

"Everything was clean but last year few times used, I always came home to something broken- picture frame, toilet handle, knob on shower. These seem like little things and they weren't brand new but there was no reason for this to happen. Was usually gone when staff came so I am not sure that I really got the 3 hours of cleaning I paid for. The best thing was coming home to a whole house cleaned at the same time and the sparkling clean stovetop which was always messy before they came.

This company was locally owned before sold to alpha ecological. Liked the service better when locally owned. However, the new scheduler got back to you quick and usually got me scheduled when I needed even on short notice.

I used them before I joined Angie's list. I would probably try a new company next time for comparison.

"Results had a once-over look, not anything like the "deep cleaning" they said they would do. Called back & showed up in timely fashion. Did not seem very familiar with terms of coupon."

"Sue washed all the windows inside and out in a home we remodeling.  The job included the skylight ceiling and windows of the sunroom.  She went above and beyond the normal window washing as she had to remove all the blinds from the sunroom windows and ceiling.  She cleaned all the screens and screen tracks. When she finished everything was sparkling clean!

"The service went well. They were able to clean the parts of the home I needed cleaned within the 4 hour time frame. Two people came out for the service and brought their own cleaning supplies. The vacuum they did use did not clean the rugs very well. They did have to come out quite a way to get to me so I would not hire them again because of how much the travel fee would be. They did fine work and I had no problem scheduling the service."

"He was on time and very professional. He asked about any sensitivities that I might have to any cleaning products. After he was all done with the cleaning, we walked through the house to make sure he did not miss anything.

Carpet Cleaning questions, answered by experts

To remove odor from a leather couch, let's focus first on what not to do.

A quick Google search may suggest using vinegar to do the job—don't. The acid will dry out anything made of leather. A better DIY option is to sprinkle a little baking soda on your sofa and let it rest for a few hours. Afterward, vacuum it up with a soft-attachment brush. You can also try airing your sofa by opening windows or leaving it outside for a few hours in a clean, dry space.

Some carpet cleaning companies tack on additional fees for moving furniture, so the best course of action is to confirm what the cleaning fee covers when you set up the appointment. While you can find companies that include furniture moving, many will not due to insurance liability, the risk of damage, or time constraints.

While you don’t have to move everything out of a room for a carpet cleaning, doing so will reveal hidden dirt and allow for a more thorough cleaning. However, for heavy or rarely used areas under furniture, cleaning around the pieces can be enough. Professional cleaners often work around large items or move furniture as needed.

Looking clean is only half the battle. A professionally cleaned carpet should feel soft and fluffy, i.e., not caked down with dirt or matted from excess cleaning product. It will not have any unpleasant odors, since carpet cleaners go deep enough to eliminate the most sunk-in smells. It should also be free of stains or discoloration from heavy foot traffic. Keep in mind that, in some cases, your cleaner may not be able to remove every stain.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.
