"this was the second time I have used this company.  The first time was approximately a year and a half before the second time.  I have ended up with a rental property which was not planned.  Therefore, my experience with dealing in these situations is fairly limited.  I had tenants moved out and the carpets appeared to need to be replaced.  This was sort of my previous experience with this company, but the carpets were in worse shape the first time.  That is the reason I called them and did not give it a second thought.  They arrived on time as they said.  They performed carpet cleaning and odor control services for two different houses.  We were selective on putting the resources where the carpets were most damaged.  By the time they had completed the job.  They had
fixed all the torn areas of the carpet and had cleaned/deodorized the carpet so that it did not need to be replaced.  When the new tenants came in, they had even remarked about their surprise that the old carpets were able to be saved.

"About a week ago my six year old daughter got sick all over our couch. My wife and I tried everything to get rid of that smell. But nothing worked. We had even resorted to shopping for a new couch. Then we called Oscar at Perter Herman Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning. He managed to completely clean and sanitize our couch, leaving no trace of that "sickly odor". He even made our old (really old) dingy carpets look a great again. My thanks to Oscar and his son. Thay did a wonderful job."

Carpet Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on floor type, area size, and additional services like waxing or sealing.

Yes, you can rent or buy a steam cleaner. A heavy-duty steam cleaner costs between $175 and $250 at most retail outlets and online. You can also usually rent one for around $40 per day.

Most of the larger machines you can rent from a hardware or grocery store have a larger water reserve and a heating element. Both operate by moving slowly and methodically over the carpet. Whether you rent or buy a unit, you will want to stay off your carpet for at least 12 to 24 hours while they dry.

In some cases, yes, it’s safe to spray hydrogen peroxide on your mattress, but the solution can damage memory foam mattresses, so you should only use it on non-memory foam mattresses. If you have a standard spring mattress, you can mix hydrogen peroxide with cold water in a 1:1 ratio and spray that on your urine-soaked mattress. If you’re cleaning pee out of a memory foam mattress, swap out the hydrogen peroxide for white distilled vinegar, or call in a professional mattress cleaner to avoid doing damage to your mattress.

There are a few reasons your area rug smells after cleaning. First, you might have agitated dirt, dust, and pet dander deep in the rug during cleaning, which might smell for a day or two if you didn’t remove it all. Second, if your rug smells like chemicals, it’s possible you didn’t rinse out all of the rug cleaning solution you used. Finally, if you didn’t hang up your rug to dry completely, it could be holding moisture and allowing mold to grow. In any of these cases, it’s a good idea to defer to a professional for help.

After a carpet cleaning, it's important to give it time to dry before walking on it. While you should wait at least one hour to prevent immediate damage, a general guideline is to stay off the carpet for 6 to 12 hours. For the carpet to dry completely, it's best to wait a full 24 hours if possible.

The exact drying time can vary based on several factors:

  • Carpet Type: Thicker or high-pile carpets may take up to a full day or longer to dry completely, especially if they are very wet.

  • Cleaning Method: Methods like steam cleaning, which extract most of the water, can reduce drying time, allowing for light traffic after 6 to 12 hours.

  • Environment: You can speed up drying time by ensuring good airflow, using fans, and maintaining low humidity. Poor ventilation will extend the drying period.

Walking on a damp carpet can re-soil it, leave footprints, and potentially damage the carpet fibers.
