"They did a fantastic job building the deck I've always wanted. I told them what I needed, and they completed the project perfectly, even in the rain! I would hire them again in a heartbeat. Very professional and personal at the same time. Woo-Hoo!!!"

"DaBella projects are carried out by contractors that are vetted, trained & certified to meet high quality standards. We had many questions about the prospective work which Manny M. the sales rep, was able to answer to our satisfactionl, including the value of the DaBella business model. The new roof was started on time & finished up this morning (August 31st), in spite of this week's very hot days. The crew did a great job & cleanup."

"The company provided some helpful ideas to get us started, & some amazing design images. In the end, we decided to hire a local on-site designer because we needed more help with identifying contractors, budgeting, and purchasing. Still the low cost investment was worthwhile."

"Not blown away. I provided a good deal of information up-front:  floorplans from my builder, exact measurements of room, my design preferences - including several stores I like to shop at to give her an idea of my style. After I had provided all of this, Jill said she'd have my designs to me in about 4 weeks. I did not receive them for at least 8-10 weeks, and that was after several emails to her requesting status of the project. If I wouldn't have prodded I'm not sure how long (if ever) I would have received what was promised. When I did receive my designs, they were floorplans, which was as expected.  Along with a page or two of copy-and-pasted pictures of a few possible furniture selection. Which was much less than I expected. Based on the description I expected boards, with color selections, upholstery, etc. This was a big disappointment, especially after waiting 2-3 times longer than she had told me it would take."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
