Advanced Vertical Solutions, LLC D.B.A. AVS Elevator is built on the life long experience as a 4th generation native Oregonian and 2nd generation elevator constructor. Frank A. Stalen and his father Paul J. Stalen have spent their elevator careers and lives in the City of Portland, contributing to its local communities. Their combined Oregon history brings AVS Elevator an in-depth study of the elevator industry dating back to the early 1950‘s and an understanding of its place in our ever growing economy and local communities. The birth of AVS Elevator came from a steady decline of the service offered by the industry as a whole. For example, the annual service work load for the average elevator constructor has elevated from approximately 50 elevators to 300 per man and growing. Safety, reliability and customer service has been marginalized as profit taking and ever growing overhead percentages drive the work loads of the elevator constructors beyond the breaking point by the industry conglomerates. “We have set out to bring you an alternative choice and to fill a void in the industry.” In developing our business plan with Mercy Corps Northwest. This is an important pillar of our culture to understand and to provide value to our employees beyond a paycheck and to contribute to our respective communities we live in. A benefit of being a local, family owned business, we have the ability to set this culture by example and provide the time employees need to foster the culture of giving. We are a small (three employees plus myself) Home Inspection & General Contracting company. The Home Inspections are most typically done for Real Estate transactions but can be tailored for almost any request. As a builder we specialize in custom remodeling work. We relocated from The "Other (SF) Bay Area" seven years ago to enjoy the smaller town intimacy we found here in Oregon. Our primary focus is making your vision a reality. We do this using all my 30+ years of experience in the building industry. Your comfort during the transition is of paramount concern to our remodeling technicians, they are specificaly trained in the "Art of Dust/Mess Management".

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

It’s a good idea to conduct a DIY attic inspection at least once a year to look for signs of water damage, pest infestation, and damage to the underside of the roof decking. If you suspect any problems, call in a professional to confirm and come up with a solution. You should also hire a pro to inspect an attic before purchasing a home, and you can have an inspection done as a seller to entice buyers to move forward with an offer or purchase.

Homeowners insurance policies generally do not cover polybutylene pipes because of the high risk they pose. Some homeowners insurance companies have been threatening to terminate policies if homeowners do not replace them. Review your personal policy to be sure, but it’s a safe bet that they’re not covered—and you should prioritize repiping your home as soon as possible to avoid costly, uncovered damage.

Typically, a home inspection takes about two to three hours, depending on the size of the home, the complexity of the layout, the various structures and features, the age of the home, and the condition of the home. During the hiring process, ask your potential home inspector to review the specifications of your home and provide an accurate time estimate for the service.

Yes, a pot filler can add value to a home by attracting buyers with its combination of prestige and usefulness. When building or renovating a kitchen, pot filler installation costs can add value without significantly increasing your overall budget. However, it's important to consider the overall design and layout of your kitchen before deciding to install a pot filler. Unlike other parts of the stove, a pot filler may not be used every day. Pot fillers are most appreciated in larger kitchens with a large distance between the sink and stove. In a smaller kitchen with a sink located close to the stove, a pot filler may seem like an unnecessary feature to some potential buyers.

Homeowners insurance usually doesn’t cover foundation cracks. They are considered normal wear and tear that every home undergoes. Your foundation in general is likely covered for things like fire and water damage, but most companies don’t insure damage caused by settling, shifting soil, earthquakes, and floods, which commonly lead to foundation cracks.
