"We are new to Portland and wanted to use our fireplace this winter and weren't sure when it had last been inspected, etc. Our plan was to use the fireplace this year and then next year install either a wood stove insert or pellet stove insert. Initially I looked on Angie's List, but the prices for a chimney sweep/inspection seemed high to me (although, being from out of state, I wasn't sure). Some did have specials going on, but the scheduling time was pretty far out for those, and we wanted to start having fires right away. So, I did a Google search and found Soot Slayer Chimney. Heath was also having a special and was able to come out within a week of my call. As he went about his inspection, it quickly became apparent how knowledgeable Heath was about fireplaces, stoves, chimneys, etc., so we talked to him about an insert and ended up going ahead with a wood stove insert now instead of next year. He was able to schedule us for a week later. We got an Osburn 1600 insert that we are very happy with. We got a sweep/inspection, crown repair, waterproofing, outside air kit, stove and blower. Also, our fireplace is made out of rocks that are not flat. Heath cut them level to accommodate the stove. I asked Heath why I didn't find him on Angie's list and suggested he register there, which he has obviously done now.
