"This contractor is highly skilled in their trade. From the top of the organization to the bottom of the organization, everyone was courteous, attentive, and professional. Their work was deployed quickly and well organized. Over the past decade, my organization has completed fourteen (14) complex and successful stabilization of foundations. As needs arise, we will likely continue to work in collaboration with Ram Jack West."

"We selected Natco because we thought they had the best plan for our little pad addition on the side of our house linking into an existing walk and pad. The weather was pretty threatening on the day they came and got much worse by the time they poured the concrete. It was miserable and they ended up working into the dark. When the concrete dried there were concave areas where water collected in the pad below the stairway. We called them and they came over and agreed about the problem. We arranged with them to come back in the spring to fix the problem. In April they came back, took out the concrete pad with the problem and replaced it. In the end, job well done. Everyone we worked with was helpful and friendly and worked to be sure we were happy with the job. We appreciated that."

"The project was out of my dad's budget, but he did offer a different solution we will do ourselves. He lets us know it would be cheaper if we did it ourselves. I loved that! My dad has been scammed before and it's refreshing to have someone be honest. I will definitely be referring them to friends and family! Thank you to Sammy Brooks!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Masonry is an umbrella term that involves adhering individual building materials together using an adhesive, so many different things are considered masonry. These include constructing stone or brick walls or facades, installing stucco siding, installing backsplashes or tile floors, and even installing glass block windows, in some cases. Masonry materials include natural stone, clay bricks, concrete bricks, glass blocks, and tiles.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.

Professionally done brick repointing can last 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. However, the exact lifespan depends on several factors, including the quality of the mortar, the skill of the mason, and exposure to weather. If you live in an area with harsh weather or frequent freeze-thaw cycles, you may need to repoint more often. Repointing that is done as a DIY project may only last 10 to 15 years. It's time to repoint when you notice signs of mortar failure, such as crumbling or missing mortar, holes, or vines growing between the bricks. Regular inspections can help you catch these issues early.
