No, vinegar won't hurt PVC pipes. While vinegar is acidic, it’s not caustic enough to damage PVC. Pouring baking soda and vinegar down your drains is a great DIY solution for clearing minor clogs. If the problem isn’t resolved with vinegar and baking soda, it’s likely time to call in a pro. Avoid using more caustic solutions like drain cleaners, as these will damage PVC pipes, especially if there’s a clog.

In the warmer months, it’s fine to leave your garden hose attached to your spigot. However, before the first frost of the year, make sure to disconnect your hose from your outdoor faucet and drain any leftover water inside. Otherwise, water could freeze in the hose and potentially burst inside your faucet or pipes.

If you don’t want to remove the sink stopper, pour ½ cup of baking soda and 2 cups of boiling water down the drain. Start by pouring 1 cup of boiling water, then the baking soda, followed by the remaining cup of boiling water. Use caution as boiling water can damage PVC or other plastic piping. Using a scrub brush or slightly abrasive sponge, clean the top of the stopper, and run the faucet to ensure the drain is clear and the stopper is clean. 

You can often identify a freeze-proof faucet by its structure. Unlike a traditional spigot, a freeze-proof one will include a long supply pipe that extends into your home and connects several inches back to your water supply. Many freeze-proof models also have an extra valve on top of the exterior of the spigot, which is the anti-siphon feature that protects against water backflow.
