"We had some very scary trees hanging over our house and with winter comming we needed them delt with. They got us a quote fast that was definitely reasonable and we're out the next week to do the work. The owner Guy walked us through what would happened, to reassure me that my house was not gonna be in harms way. He took down the trees effortlessly and cleaned up like nothing ever happened. Definitely gonna call them back when I'm ready to do some more clean up around my property. Very pleased with the services he provides and the knowledge he has. Thank you!"

"Matt was here when he said he was going to be. He got the job to my satisfaction I couldnâ  t be more happy with the work that he did. Matt is very professional and definitely cares about his customers and his work. He is fair in price and he showed up in time ready to get the job done. When we talked and I asked questions he was very through and respectful. All in all I highly highly recommend Matt Rich with cornerstone construction & tree services. He got the job done right the first time I will definitely be calling him again for other things I need done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. Using the stump as the medium for a wood carving or turning it into a planter are just two examples of ways to repurpose a tree stump.

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.
