Dan showed up with his son as an assistant, and they proceeded to remove the door - they did not put protection on either side of the threshold, and began mixing epoxy to fill in some damaged portions of the jamb - but they were doing it over an expensive waterproofed membrane on the porch. When they removed the door, they dragged it across the interior fir floor, scrapping a gouge into the finish. They carved in some new locations for hinges, and put in the hinges for the door. Unfortunately, the hinges were not sitting parallel to the jamb surface, and only one was flush with the jamb, so that the whole door hung crooked in the jamb, with a 1/2 in gap at one end of the bottom of the door, decreasing to no gap on the other side of the bottom of the door; th.e top of the door had a corresponding error. The door was hung crooked. I was charged $100/hr for the job, which took almost 5 hours, because he charged me $50/hr for himself, and $50/hr for his assistant, who did not work as more than an assistant. Dan suggested some things to fix the big gaps, and left, leaving me work to do to have a weatherproofed door. Eventually I asked him to come back to straighten the installation, but when he did, he told me his job was not improper, that the jamb was crooked, the opening was crooked, and refused to do anything. Subsequently, I removed the door, fixed the placement of the hinges, and now the door hangs square in the frame - but I had to spend several hours of my own time and effort to correct a poor installation, which is the reason I hired Dan in the first place.
Response from Chojnacki Remodeling LLC
"This door install went as I told customer it would with the skewed opening in his 100+ year old house. When I went to look at his complaint it was I as expected, a square door in a skewed hole left some spaces that needed weather stripping which he stated he'd get. We installed a new threshold to seal the bottom and when we left he was satisfied and paid the bill. He complained about not having time to do the project himself but had time to hang over our shoulders the entire time we were there."

Dan began with tearing down an existing deck and structure from the North/back side of my home, breaking up and removing the old concrete slab, and the after removing all of the debris, he contracted a concrete man to form and pour my concrete slab and step to my existing steps, as well as built upon that slab, an entirely new, permitted, and legal pressure treated cedar deck frame and 20' stairway coming down from the 2nd floor deck to the ground. On that frame he helped me pick what tread and decking materials I could use from what I had asked for. So we put in the new resin Trax decking materials for both.
In putting in my basement door and windows for me, Dan discovered a lot of dry rot damage that I knew would be there due to Ivy growing into the walls of the home before we bought it, exposing it to the elements and rain. He replaced the dry rotted framing and siding for us.
The only delays we had on the work we had ordered and contracted to have done were from the subcontracted companies work load, and or short-failings. But Dan was always here when he said he would be, ALWAYS. I could always count on him.
