Complete slab stone and Quartz fabrication, and installations. Owner is 5th generation stone worker, and has been doing stone slab fabrication full time since 1982. We do residential, and light commercial jobs. We specialize in Marble, Limestone, and Soapstone (and all of the other stones as well!). Our clients are all from word of mouth referrals (except for Angie's list). We specialize in custom work. I invite you to call us for your work- large jobs or small ones, they are all important. We also do repair work, either in our shop, or on site if needed. Your broken table, or other stone may be salvaged. Just call and I can tell you if it is possible (I have personally repaired "Humpty Dumpty" at least 1000 times, and most of the time you couldn't tell he fell off of the wall!) I could go on, and on, and on, but I think you've read enough. For more info on our services, just call. If you would rather use vinegar to clean the stone fireplace instead of dish soap, this mixture should work fine. Vinegar is slightly acidic, however, so it may etch some kinds of stone without quite a bit of diluting. For a stone fireplace, dilute it to about one cup of vinegar for every gallon of hot water. It’s a smart idea to test the diluted mixture in an inconspicuous area of the fireplace and watch for etching. You can use vinegar to clean quite a few different items around your home, and it’s especially good at removing stains.

There are a handful of things you can look out for that indicate fireplace repair is necessary in your home:

  • See or smell smoke in your home during use.

  • You smell gas or unusual odors coming from your fireplace.

  • The fireplace is visibly damaged or crumbling.

  • The igniter won’t light.

  • You notice shaling (pieces of chimney lining) building up in your fireplace.

  • Any portion of the fireplace is rusted.

  • You notice efflorescence (white stains) on the brick.

When your fireplace is not in use for longer periods of time, such as over the summer, you can keep smells at bay by spraying either a commercial fireplace deodorizing product or a blend of one part distilled white vinegar to one part water around the walls of the fireplace. 

Or, you can place a container of charcoal inside the fireplace to absorb odors. Just be sure to remove it before it’s time to start using the fireplace again.

One of the best ways to know your chimney is good to go on any given night is to simply look up into your flue with a flashlight. If you see a thick buildup of creosote—a shiny, dark substance that looks like tar—it’s best to have your fireplace professionally cleaned before you go ahead with the burn.
