"I was glad John's Waterproofing was recommended to me to resolve the serious water problem in my large crawl space. With Jake's Design and Jeremy's remarkable crew, who were able to efficiently perform the many tasks needed to fix the problem, I now have a dry, clean and healthier crawl space under my home. Thanks to John's superb 5 star Company! Virginia Rossman"

"Friends who know what our basement looked like before are flabbergasted. The information they send you after you contact them is super educational and everyone was prompt, polite, and professional. Wish we'd done this sooner."

"Very impressed with Darren: his work ethic, thoroughness of the work, cleanliness of the job site when the job was finished. He arrived when he said he would and stopped by when he was done for the day to let me know he was leaving. I certainly would recommend Pacific Waterproofing, LLC."

"Overall the Crawlspace Crew did some great work for our basement area. The initial phone call was very informative, then they came on-site for a walk-thru and provided an itemized estimate we could understand. We expressed that budget was a concern and only elected to do some of the work, they were supportive of this and we were scheduled in within a week. The work was completed in a timely and thorough manner and we are very satisfied. Shout out to Dillon, for working within our budget, and being flexible on the specifics, I would definitely recommend this company/service to a friend or anyone in need."

"The problem ended up being plumbing and not waterproofing. But TerraFirma did a consult right away, diagnosed the issue quickly and was really helpful in figuring out the next steps. I really appreciate their time."

"I had a clogged kitchen sink that was backing up into my basement utility sink. They were able to come out same day, they had an advertised deal that seemed almost too good to be true. They were fabulous to talk to on the phone and schedule the visit and consult. After they gave me a definitive price, they grabbed their gear and were able to clear the drain in 15 minutes. The price was amazing, and they helped put my fears to rights. 10/10 would recommend!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Below-ground shelters are the best in terms of durability, but there is a risk of flooding and obstruction. Modern technology and rigorous construction requirements make above-ground shelters a better option for accessibility, safety, and, usually, your budget. They may not have the same aesthetic appeal, but many of their features make above-ground shelters a better option.

Standing water under your house can threaten its structural integrity. If water pools in your crawl space, it can damage the foundation and the structure above ground, causing wood rot, mold, and other problems. If you have a concrete foundation, standing water under your house can also make your foundation slabs crack.

A sump pump can be added to an existing basement. To do this, you will need to use a jackhammer or sledgehammer to break up the concrete and dig a pit. You will also need to create a hole in your basement wall to run the discharge pipe through.

If not properly maintained, an underground downspout may damage your home's foundation. A clogged downspout can back up, causing water to pool around the base of your home and seep into the foundation. Regular inspections and maintenance keep your downspout in good working order, preventing damage and protecting your home.

Crawl spaces are the more desirable option overall because they provide additional space for storage and utilities, but they are more expensive to install and maintain. Slab foundations are considered a better option in warmer climates where the depth of the frost line isn’t an issue because they’re more affordable, but crawl spaces are better in areas where the frost line is deep or where flooding can be an issue.
