WARNING. If I had seen even one of the poor reviews these people have, we wouldn't have ever hired them. I'm not even sure where to begin. We were moving from an 800 square foot one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom apartment about 6 minutes away. Three very young men showed up, and immediately started uttering dreadful sentiments under their breath because they obviously didn't like the sight of what work lied ahead of them. They dragged their feet the entire time, and ended up taking 9.5 hours to move us out, which happened to be about four hours longer than any other company has taken in the past to move the exact same amount of items. However, a lot of our items didn't actually make the move to our new place, and many items were broken and damaged. All of our Christmas decorations are missing, several free standing items like mirrors, 3 tiered shelves, and carrier carts are missing, boxes containing photo albums and hand stitched items from deceased relatives are missing, and some of our larger pieces of furniture were broken - not by accident - but deliberately. While they were upstairs trying to figure out how simple cam locks work (which they never figured out), my wife was downstairs listening to their conversation, unbeknownst to them. They were screaming angrily, and broke two identical desks BEFORE THEY EVEN MOVED THEM AT ALL because they weren't experienced enough to operate a cam lock assembly, which simply involves turning a screw 25% to the left to release the lock. Instead, they ripped the top sections of the desks completely off, completely ruining them for reassembly. We provided snacks, water, and lunch for these guys, allowed them to take a weight bench I was getting rid of for free, and tipped them (unfortunately) before they began in the hopes that it would motivate them to move faster. That was not the case, however. They moved at a snail's pace the whole time, while one of the guys stayed in the moving truck the entire time, and the other two younger guys did all the work. So really, just two guys to move an entire apartment, which is absurd when you're stuck paying by the hour. In fact, it almost feels a little bit like a scam. When I contacted Gentle John's about our broken and missing items, they sent a "statement of claim" form, which was basically stating that they would cover 60 cents per pound, per item broken. HOWEVER, they don't cover anything that isn't real wood. So the desks that were broken won't be covered because they weren't real wood, apparently. And, I had to explain to a very rude manager named Gloria that reimbursement from the statement of claim form wouldn't even be worth the time it took to complete it. She called to basically accuse me of having not been unpacked yet, even though I was, and then to inform me that they wouldn't be covering anything that was missing or broken. So why bother calling me? To further inflame a situation about which she intended to do nothing at all? Where's the incentive for these people to actually work quickly when we're being charged by the hour? Where's the incentive for them to not damage or steal/leave our belongings unattended for others to steal when the repercussions for doing so are so minimal? That "manager" called me to basically yell at me, cut off every single sentence I started, then accuse me of cutting her off (which was impossible because I couldn't get a single sentence out), and then claimed that I was using foul language (which was again false) so that she could just hang up on me and not deal with any of it. That's what happened. They either threw our items away, they left them unattended for other people to steal, or they stole the items themselves. I'll never know what happened, and neither will the manager because she "wasn't there that day." Yeah, obviously. But she's a lot closer to getting those answers than I am because she's supposedly the manager, yet she is just as clueless on day 30 as she was on day 1. Hire these guys at your own risk - literally, because they won't cover anything. Lawsuit/police report pending.
