"They were wonderful, the guys were perfect and they did a wonderful job on the driveway. They were fast, they did the whole thing in five days and it was just a superb job. They did a great job. They bought in trucks and stuff, they tore everything in about 3 hours. It's a big driveway and a fairly good sized sidewalk and they started in the morning and they had it done in the noon. They cleaned up after themselves, respectful and they were just hardworking guys. The price was reasonable and they were a wonderful team to work with."

"Nathan was professional and thorough. Completed everything in the bid on time and for the agreed upon price, which was very fair. Very good communication and follow through. We have a steep vineyard site that required extensive brush clearing and grading, along with a driveway that needed gravel replacement and resurfacing. We plan to use Nathan again for some annual maintenance of our site and can recommend him to others without reservation."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning, sealing, and timely repair of cracks help maintain its condition.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Like all driveway materials, asphalt can crack in the wrong conditions and with age. Many things can cause asphalt to crack, including shifting soil or settling under the foundation. Other common causes are driving oversized vehicles on the asphalt, tree roots, and using rock salt during the snowy season. Proper installation and sealing the driveway every 10 years can help prevent cracks.

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.
