"Martin and his crew tore up a paver patio and partial lawn and installed a beautiful patio with pavers and river rock. On time and worked quickly! I was really happy with how I was treated and the quality of work they did. It was a small project which I sometimes have a hard time finding people for and Martin was eager and made me feel like it was worth his time."

"RT Custom Builds built us our gorgeous two story dream barn for our horses, with a hay loft and nice shop and covered overhangs for RV and horse trailer parking. Robert built it to specifications of the engineered plans. We have had other builder friends ask to see our barn inside and they always comment that our barn is truly the work of an expert craftsman barn builder and that this kind of quality work is a total rarity in today's industry. The barn is not only a picture worthy gorgeous structure, but Robert was very patient with us when we asked for a lot of customization as the building progressed. Anytime we had a concern, he would address the concern right away and make it right. He was good at explaining options and helping us make decisions. People ask us about who built our barn and our experience with the builder, and I highly recommend RT Custom Builds. Our barn is so well built that I predict it will be standing in another 100 plus years."

"We got 4 bids for our project and Charles bid was right in the middle of the pack. He had a 9 month lead time when we hired him and we had to put 25% down to hold our spot. It was radio silence for the next eight months which was little disconcerting. I actually texted him 6 months in just to make sure he hadn’t run off with our money (he hadn’t). If you want someone to talk you through each step and hold your hand you should probably look elsewhere. If you want a respectful and knowledgeable professional who takes great pride in his work, then look no further. Once our turn came he was very patient with us and spent as much time as we needed to pick out tile and fixtures, taking us from store to store. He also worked around our schedule to begin work on our son’s bathroom while our son was out of the country to minimize disruption. He has a great relationship with his sub-contractors who always showed up when he said they would and stayed until their job was done (almost midnight for one part!). On our project, Charles right hand man was Justyn, who more that makes up for Charles’ lack of communication. Justyn was very personable and considerate. He never made us feel like a question was a bother and seemed to actually enjoy answering them. Justyn was worth his weight in gold. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, Charles had to lean quite heavily on Justyn during our project, but he was more than up to the task. We had one light fixture that took almost 3 months to ship. When they came to install it, about 2 months after everything else was completed, we gave him a list of minor issues that caught our eyes during the wait and Charles arranged for them all to get fixed without batting an eyelash."

"We hired Fine Finish (Mark) to design and build a 2-car attached garage with partially finished space overhead, including a small finished office.
It's hard to list all the ways Mark and Travis went above and beyond during our garage addition project. First, they worked through some of the worst weather an Oregon winter has to offer. While most of Portland was crippled due to flooding, Mark and Travis were hauling shingles up a 2-story ladder and installing our roof. When they were planning the gutter installation, they noticed that our existing gutters were still full of oak leaves. So they cleaned the gutters. They were especially patient with our 18 month-old son, who affectionately referred to them as the ?guys? and took a keen interest in everything they did.
Mark anticipated future design aspects that we hadn?t thought of like leaving space and wiring in the garage for a central HVAC
system. He asked insightful questions about future plans to make sure our money was spent wisely, now and in the future. Even during the design phase, Mark was very transparent about different cost-saving options and associated tradeoffs.
We expected that once the work started, we would mostly be dealing with subcontractors. To our surprise, only the foundation work, gutters, and garage door installation were sub-contracted. Mark and Travis did all of the framing and finish work themselves. As a result, the quality of our addition is noticeably superior to that of our original home.
If you want someone to hire an army of people to throw your project together as quickly as possible, look elsewhere. If you want the attention to detail of a craftsman and an honest, no-nonsense interaction with someone who takes pride in his work and has your best interests at heart, talk to Mark. We?re glad we did and we?ll definitely be back in the future.

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.

A 5x8 trailer can fit a queen-sized bed plus additional items. It is one of the most common sizes for enclosed cargo trailers, open utility trailers, and dump trailers. U-Haul, a national trailer rental company serving most U.S. markets, claims its 5x8 enclosed trailer can tow up to 1,800 pounds.

While a romantic getaway in a vacation treehouse may sound appealing, building one to live in year-round comes with more challenges. However, a growing number of people are adopting this small-scale living approach to appreciate an off-the-grid, private lifestyle. It allows you to feel closer to nature in a sustainable, customizable, minimalist, and eco-friendly way.

Building a tiny house is the least complicated way to build, especially if you’re tackling the project as a DIY. The smaller size means less complex plans, more straightforward utility installation, and fewer ways to make costly errors. Tiny homes still need to conform to building codes and often have other applicable regulations, so be sure to get the proper permits and confirm your build is by the book.

Any type of construction that damages a tree’s roots via soil compaction can be dangerous, and is one of the primary causes of mature tree death in residential areas. Simply putting lots of weight on the ground around the tree, like construction supplies, trailers, and equipment, can kill roots near the surface. Of course, installing new foundations, patios, or utility lines can cut through nearby tree roots. Accidentally striking a tree with equipment or supplies is rarely a problem, but can cause damage of its own, too.
