"We contacted Lakeside one afternoon and Daniel came out the very next day! Daniel inspected the roof, taking pictures of the damage. Our roofing tiles are no longer sold so he found ones that look almost identical and had our roof repaired that same day! Our roof was fixed and they cleaned up after themselves leaving no nails or trash around the yard. Our experience with them was fantastic! Whenever we need roof work done, we're calling Lakeside Roofing for sure. We highly recommend them!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Mansard roofs are still popular in Paris, where they originated, and throughout France. In the United States, you can find mansard roofs on some older buildings in Manhattan. The architecture also appears on some Victorian and Colonial-style homes. There are pockets of homes with mansard roofs in New York City and Los Angeles, where they were once more popular than they are today.

A roof can collapse from a leak if the leak is left unattended long enough. A collapse will happen when the structural components of your roof become saturated with water over time. The roof deck or rafters can slowly weaken until they can no longer support the weight of your roof.

A gambrel roof and a mansard roof are similar in that they are both hipped roofs, meaning they have double slopes—one steep and one more gradual above the steep slope. The difference is that a gambrel roof has a double slope on only two sides of the structure, whereas a mansard roof has a double slope on all four sides.

As with any roofing material, there are benefits and drawbacks to consider before installing roll roofing. On the plus side, roll roofing is budget-friendly, lightweight, and comparatively easy to install. It is also ideal for low-sloped roofs and lasts around 10 years. The cons of roll roofing, however, include its low durability compared to roofing materials, restricted color choices, and low ROI.

Pros:

  • Low-cost

  • Lightweight

  • Cut to size

  • Easy and quick installation

  • Designed for low-sloped roofs

  • Waterproofs your roof for an average of 10 years

  • Easy to purchase and transport

Cons:

  • Less durable than asphalt shingles

  • More prone to cracks and tears

  • Short life span

  • Not as many color or style choices

  • Not as aesthetically pleasing as shingles, wood, or clay tiles

  • Not preferred for a higher home resale value

Maybe you waited a little longer than you should have before dealing with the snow accumulation on your roof, and now you are wondering if there is risk of roof collapse. Here are some signs you should look out for: a sagging roof, cracking and cracking sounds, cracks in walls, and leaks in your attic and ceiling.

If you suspect potential roof collapse, do not delay. Take immediate action. Call a professional roofing company and get an inspection. You may want to move your belongings to a safe place and relocate your family until everything has been taken care of.
