When we realized our tree needed cut down, we were quoted 8,000 dollars to take down my tree by a local company in Norman. Samuel Augustus General contracting was able to remove it for 2000.00. Trees aren't big fans of moving, and they do go into shock during a transplant. Although most carefully thought-out tree transplants see the tree recover from the shock just fine, there is always a risk of having an unsuccessful move. Proper preparation, timing, and diligent aftercare are crucial to minimize the risks when transplanting a tree.

Trees growing within 10 to 15 feet of your house pose serious risks, so it’s worth considering removing them. First, branches that hang over and touch your roof can promote roof damage and moss accumulation, which can lead to leaking. Second, they drop debris into your gutters, leading to clogs and overflow that can promote foundation leaks. Finally, the root systems can grow into your home’s foundation, sometimes putting enough pressure on them that the concrete wall cracks, leaving you with structural damage. As such, it’s often a good idea to remove trees growing close to your home.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but we don’t recommend it. If the tree is short enough to easily reach the top branches, and the tree is far from power lines or structures, consider renting a chainsaw and removing it yourself. Trees that are larger than that, close to electrical lines, or close to fences, homes, sheds, or other structures should only ever be removed by professionals. Not only is the work dangerous, but you could damage structures on your property in the process.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.
