You may be able to paint a high ceiling without a ladder if you have an extension pole that reaches high enough. Some extension poles have telescoping handles, allowing you to adjust the pole's length without needing to swap it out. Another option is to use a scaffold to reach high areas.

You may need to provide your own paint, depending on the agreement you make with the painter. Some painters prefer that you buy the paint and they supply the labor. However, some professional painters get a better price on paint and can pass that savings along to you even after accounting for labor costs.

Streaky trim paint can result from several factors, including improper application techniques and insufficient coats. If you use a brush too large or damaged, you’re more likely to get uneven coverage. Using the wrong paint for the surface can also mean it’s not opaque enough to get the right coverage and a smooth finish. Remember to keep drying times in mind if you’re doing multiple coats. It's possible to paint over paneling without sanding if you use a primer that masks defects and provides a strong base layer for the final coat of paint to adhere to. If you have solid wood paneling, it's helpful to sand it lightly so your primer and paint stick. But, if your paneling has a faux veneer, skip the sanding because you’ll remove a layer and expose the pressed board underneath.

You should let your initial paint job dry at least 12 hours before opening the door. Check your work after 12 hours have passed to confirm there are no uneven patches, or signs of the old paint showing though—if you see any, we recommend applying a second coat of paint and waiting an additional 12 hours for it to dry.
