"Takes for ever to get a return a call. Also took a week to get someone out for repairs. They said they would reimburse me for septic repairs and it took over 3 months for that to happen."

"I recently purchased a Fannie Mae foreclosure, a house with nice potential but quite a mess to get started with.  I contacted a couple of names from Angie's List and Roger Allen was so professional from the get go (good guy too), I went with him pretty quickly.  He was able to get an estimate together and to my lender soon after I had asked.  I'm not an expert on pricing but his numbers were consistent with the other I had received and ended up being accurate by the time everything was done.  On small jobs that is easy, on the mess that was my house, quite a challenge.  We had problems all around from an iffy septic system, siding peeling away, no hot water heaters, ancient electrical boxes, decor from a generation long past, leaks in the shower/master bath, carpeting that had seen much better days, etc.  He was able to take care of everything inside of my budget without any glaring omissions.  Even when my wife picked out expensive paints, he was able to take care of the overage.  Roger and his people have been great, I'll be using him for any future fix-it jobs in the future for sure."

Over time, your septic tank can accumulate a buildup of sludge at the bottom of the tank. If left unpumped and uncleaned, the sludge will back up into your pipes and home, causing failure and extensive (and smelly) damage. Septic drain lines (or leach lines) are typically buried between 18 and 36 inches underground, and should be at least 6 inches below the surface. These pipes are perforated and surrounded by filtering materials like sand or gravel. Burying the lines at this depth helps minimize odors and allows bacteria and other biological processes in the soil to effectively treat the wastewater. Burying lines too close to the surface can cause issues unless the soil is very compact and stable.

Depending on the size and location of your septic tank repair job, you may want to let the septic pros finish before tackling other backyard work. However, in some cases, it’s not a bad idea to coordinate between your providers if the timing’s right and your septic repair pro says it’s safe to do so. For instance, if the septic repair work is happening in the fall, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to prepare your backyard landscaping for winter , or in spring, start mulching the garden beds.

You can put yogurt in your septic tank, but it will not increase the bacteria in your septic tank. In other words, it won't harm your tank, but it won't get rid of a septic smell or boost the performance of your septic system. While yogurt contains helpful bacteria, you would need to buy an extraordinary amount of yogurt to make any difference. Adding yogurt is not a helpful or cost-effective strategy.

If your leach field becomes clogged or saturated, it can cause several problems with your home's septic system. The clog can cause sewage to back up into your home, leading to unpleasant odors and mess. A backed-up septic system can be a health hazard, particularly if the sewage starts to leach into the ground surrounding the leach field.

There are several ways to fix a saturated drain field, including cleaning out your septic tank, adding enzymes and additives to your drain system, and installing a larger septic system.
