"A crew from Groundworks installed eight floor supports and encapsulated our crawl space last week. Jorge, Isaac, Kenny, Zacch, and Anthony did a great job! They worked very long hours to complete our project in a timely fashion and were great to interact with. They identified several plumbing and air duct problems and brought them to my attention. Jorge, the team leader, was great about communicating with me and keeping me well informed. The after job clean-up was very thorough. Jorge has been available by phone for my questions even after they have moved on to another job. These guys are very deserving of five stars. Also, I want to give a shout out to Anthony who did our inspection/estimate. He was very thorough and patient and made everything understandable. Another five-star guy!"

"This was my first time using a contractor based on an Angie?s List listing, and though I was a bit apprehensive about it, the Angie?s List service did what I was hoping that it would do: it ensured a very smooth contractor experience.
Jill at Handyman Matters corresponded with me via email, which was excellent. That allowed a minimum amount of time needed for coordination. She was also very flexible on the installation date because I was awaiting the arrival of the special-ordered garbage disposal at the local Lowe's outlet. Once I picked up the item at Lowe's, I emailed Jill to let her know that I was ready to schedule the installation. She was able, amazingly, to schedule it for two days later.
Armando showed up right on time at our home to install the component, after first uninstalling the old disposal. He had a difficult time fitting the new disposal onto the existing mounting ring (which was also practically brand-new, which is why we chose not to install the new mounting ring that came with the new disposal). He also was required to install the cord from the old disposal onto the new disposal (we both knew that ahead of time).
There was one point where Armando could have left the new disposal "precariously mounted" and that would have been adequate. However, he remarked that "he wanted to do it right" and continued to wrestle with the installation of the new disposal on the mounting ring until he finally got a good, snug fit. I was VERY impressed with that particular facet of Armando's installation process.
I knew going in that there would be a one-time $50 service charge included in the final bill, and though I am unsure of what that is all about, I paid it without hesitation; the price paid match the price quoted before the installation at the time of scheduling the appointment. My gut reaction is that the service charge allows the company to remain competitive with other similar companies. Other than the one-time service charge, I think that the final bill was fair, charging the amount of labor that was required (2 hours). Part of that time was filled by Armando having to visit our local hardware store to pick up a needed extender tube with clamps because he had to cut off part of the existing tubing to fit the new disposal correctly. Once again, I was very impressed by his desire to "do the job right." He could have left part of the drain tube resting against the disposal, but I was very pleased to see that he ensured that this did not happen (thus preventing the disposal from vibrating against the drain tube during operation).
Finally, Armando did a cleanup of the work area and then checked the new disposal for proper operation. He also gave me some much-needed tips about the use of the new disposal that should extend its life considerably.
Oh . . . I also asked Armando to take a quick look at one of our three toilets that had leaked water onto the floor a couple of weeks ago (we had shut off its water supply so that Armando could then look at it for us). He did a thorough inspection of it and then turned on its water supply. We both watched for any leaks but could find none. Armando told me what to watch for and how to let Handyman Matters know the specifics if it were to leak again. Basically, he restored the use of this toilet to us without any additional charge, etc. by doing a professional re-enabling of its water supply and then monitoring it briefly for leaks.
We will definitely use Handyman Matters again in the future whenever the need arises and were very impressed with their quality of service. We have nothing negative to say about them, which is a rarity in today's business environment. We will also always request that Armando be our service technician for any future visits if he is available.

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

If you try a drain snake and various DIY methods for unclogging drains to no avail, bring in a professional plumber to assess the situation. Also, if multiple drains in your home are backing up or you smell sewage, a visit from a plumber is best. You can expect your drain cleaning costs to fall around $250, and this can include an assessment of what’s caught in your plumbing and if there’s a larger, underlying problem. You should also consider calling a pro if you need to snake a toilet, as DIYing this could lead to a cracked fixture.

Using less toilet paper is the easiest way to prevent future clogs. Also, avoid flushing sanitary products, thick paper towels, or hair down the toilet. If you’ve been using a brick in the tank to reduce the water used to flush the toilet, take it out immediately. Bricks will eventually fall apart and clog your toilet drain. Keeping your toilet lid closed also helps avoid future clogs.

Usually it’s fine to leave a toilet clogged overnight, as long as it’s not close to overflowing. In some cases, the extra time may give the clog time to work itself out. For example, if it’s caused by an excess of toilet paper, letting it sit could result in the clog dissolving and you may be able to simply flush it away by the time you wake up.

Only let it sit though if you have more than one toilet in the home.

To get rid of a sewer smell in your crawl space, you’ll have to find the source of the problem. If it has to do with your sewer lines, then repairing the line will help. You may need to make other repairs, like fixing your sump pump or encapsulating your crawl space to reduce moisture. After you make the repair, depending on the issue, you may still need to clean out your crawl space to get rid of the stink.

Snakes can occasionally enter homes through shower drains, although it’s quite rare. This can happen when they follow sewer pipes or accidentally find their way into plumbing systems. To minimize the risk, consider installing drain covers or stoppers on your shower drains. Always keep drains closed when they’re not in use, especially in areas where snakes are known to be active.
