They attempted to overcharge me the original quote. Long story short, Tower contracted a local company and did a poor job of handing over the job."

I paid extra to get packing blankets and straps...which they didn't even use. I asked that they wrap the furniture to protect it....that didn't happen either. When our PODs were delivered and they opened the doors, I wanted to cry....seeing all of my nice furniture just thrown in that POD! FIND another moving company...not this one!"

Moving straps like forearm or shoulder straps can usually support up to 800 pounds, sometimes more with specialized straps. However, that doesn’t mean that one person can always lift that much weight, just that the straps are rated for that amount. For example, some straps require two people working together to balance the weight of the heavy item.

Before hiring a moving company to help you with your move, there are a few things you will want to ask, including: 

  • Is there anything your company won’t move? 

  • Does workers’ compensation cover the crew?

  • Will you disassemble and reassemble the furniture? 

  • Are there packing restrictions?

  • Can you guarantee my delivery date?

  • Can you provide references? 

  • What do you charge extra for?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

There are some household items movers won’t pack, while there are others that are important to keep on your person during the move. Don’t pack the following items:

  • Poisonous, hazardous, flammable, or explosive items, including some cleaners, matches, alcohol, and paint

  • Perishable food items

  • Pets and plants

  • Irreplaceable items and documents, such as your passport, will, and medical records

It’s best to book local movers about three months in advance to ensure your moving date is available, as most of the time, you’ll have a fairly tight window for moving your belongings. When booking your moving date, provide your moving team with as much detailed information as possible to prepare for the big day. Let your movers know an estimate of how many boxes they’ll move, any large or bulky items, number of bedrooms in your current home, the type of moving vehicle, and more.

First, snap some photos of the piano so you can prove if damage happens during the move. Second, secure the lid and wrap it in bubble wrap and furniture blankets ahead of the move (especially if movers aren’t handling this step for you). Third, if you aren’t sure about tight spaces, take measurements and check your gaps to make sure clearance won’t be an issue. On the day of the move, keep kids and pets far away from the movers and piano to avoid accidents.
