"We are very happy with our decision to have Comfort Concepts replace our system. Mike came out and found that our compressor was shorted. He gave us several options and we decided to go ahead and replace the entire heat and air system due to it's age. Mike and his assistant were very punctual and arrived exactly when he said to start replacing the unit. They were here all day to replace all of the equipment and were very professional and courteous the whole time. When they were finished they cleaned up everything leaving the garage looking better than it did when they arrived. Mike took the time to explain the operation of the new unit and how to operate the new thermostat. Mike was very polite and made sure all of our questions were answered before he left. We do not plan on having to do this again for a very long time but when we do we will be sure to call Comfort Concepts and they will certainly be doing all of our service work from now on.

"I usually use a different company for regular A/C tuneups in the spring as well as furnace tuneups in the fall. Last Friday, that company performed a tuneup on my system and charged me for 2 lbs. of R-22, a capacitor and a hard start kit. My A/C was working just fine prior to their arrival and when they left it wasn't cooling at all. I called them again and they sent the same technicians back out only to be told that my compressor was shot shortly afterwards. It was going to cost me $6000-$7000 to replace the whole system since it was R-22. I have American Home Shield warranty service, so I called them and they sent out All Comfort Specialists. It didn't take Tony and Pat anytime at all to figure out that the inept technicians the other company sent had overcharged my unit which was causing the compressor to shut down when the pressure and amps reached too high of a level. Also, I already had a hard start kit, yet the other company decided to add another one. After Tony reclaimed the 2 lbs. of refrigerant, my unit started cooling perfectly as it had done before the tuneup. Needless to say, All Comfort Specialists just gained a new customer for the foreseeable future."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks and technical expertise required. Hire licensed professionals.

You can save money on heating oil through a combination of improving home efficiency and smart purchasing strategies.

Home Efficiency and Usage:

  • Improve Insulation: Ensure your home, especially the basement and attic, is well-insulated and sealed against drafts to prevent heat leakage.

  • Manage Your Thermostat: Use a properly calibrated and programmable thermostat. Lower the temperature by a few degrees, particularly when you are away from home or asleep.

Purchasing Strategies:

  • Buy in the Off-Season: Order heating oil during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This strategy is most effective if you have a large primary tank or a separate storage tank to accommodate bulk deliveries.

  • Consider a Delivery Contract: Some companies offer contracts with a set price for the term. This can lead to savings if market prices for oil increase, but you might pay more if prices drop.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

The best time to buy home heating oil is in the summer when the demand is lowest, as the prices are usually lower. However, waiting until the summer to buy is often unavoidable unless you install a separate storage tank. If you have the space for a second tank, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $4,000 for the oil tank replacement or installation, depending on the capacity and location. You could quickly recuperate these costs, though, by stocking up on heating oil in the summer and avoiding deliveries in the winter when prices are highest.

There are several types of home radiators, and the most common are steam heat radiators, electric radiators, and dual-fuel radiators. Steam heat radiators are connected to a boiler. Electric radiators can operate without being connected to anything else—they just need an electrical outlet. If you have a dual-fuel radiator, you’ll see a valve at the bottom of the system with a wire coming out of it and going into a wall. These are often your towel radiators in the bathroom. The type of radiator you have will impact how you turn it on.
