They were awesome. They came out quickly, found the problem, didn?t lie, cause you never know with people. They were honest. I only paid the deductible, so I don?t know how fair that is. I would use them again, I mean, I hope I can, cause I changed home warranties.
On 09/15/2014, AHS contacted us and informed us that the evap coil would be replaced under the home warranty, that our service contract only pays $10 per lb of Freon and that we would be responsible for the additional $55 per lb for the 4 lbs needed and that AHS has agreed to pay for the items out of code up to $250 leaving us with $77 to pay for. Our total cost would be $297. First, our paperwork simply stated that the refrigerant level simply needed to be checked once the evap coil was replaced, not a definite need for 4 lbs of Freon. Second, our paperwork never stated anything about items not in code. The technician never informed us of any of this either. However, we agreed to pay the $297 fee.
All Comfort Specialist contacted us on 09/18/2014 to inform us that the evap coil would be received at the warehouse on the afternoon of 09/19/2014 and they scheduled the install between the hours of 8 and 10 am for 09/22/2014.
On 09/19/2014, our upstairs unit stopped working. I contacted AHS to request service late 09/19/2014.
On the morning of 09/22/2014, All Comfort Specialist contacted us to inform us that the evap coil was the wrong one and that they would need to come out between 2 and 4 that afternoon and confirm the serial/model numbers on our unit. I confirmed that they would also look at our upstairs unit as well.
During the scheduled time, two techs responded. They wrote down the serial/model numbers on my downstairs unit and cleaned the evap coil on my upstairs unit. The upstairs unit was working when they left. They once again collected a new $75 charge for the upstairs unit. The paperwork simply stated that the filters were dirty, the evap coil was dirty and they cleaned the evap coil.
On 09/23/2014, we received a call from AHS that the evap coil replacement for our downstairs unit had now been denied because of hail damage to our units. We would be responsible for the full $2000+ it would cost to replace our unit. Once again, the techs never said anything to us about a potential issue involving hail damage. My husband called AHS for more clarification. He was told that All Comfort Specialist is now stating that the hail damage to the exterior fins on our outside unit had caused the pressure to build in the unit and blow out the evap coil. My husband contacted All Comfort Specialist and received a similar story.
Luckily, my husband works with individuals that work on HVAC systems. One agreed to come over to our house on the evening of 09/24/2014 to take a look. The technician my husband works with could not believe the lies we had been told. Both evap coils simply needed cleaning. The units are 31 years old. They took mean green and spent 30 minutes outside cleaning both evap coils. Even the one upstairs that was supposedly "cleaned" by the technicians at All Comfort Specialists was still incredibly dirty. He did add a little refrigerant to one unit, and after about 2 and a half hours, both units were working perfectly.
Had we have not questioned furthered all the items that simply weren't adding up, we may have blindly paid the $2,000+ to have our AC repaired. As it was, we shelled out $150 for services that weren't performed, over a week without an AC downstairs and additional time and money to get our AC repaired properly. I do not recommend doing business with All Comfort Specialist.
All work was done as agreed in a professional manner. I was surprised that there was a charge for the original estimate/analysis, though it was disclosed to me. I wasn't going to get bids for this small job, so I went ahead with ACS since they had good reviews and a recommendation from my daughter. I don't think I will use them again, however.
Daniel (Co-owner) struck me as an honest guy with lot's of experience. I have some experience in HVAC work, and recognized he was trying to get me what I needed, not what he would like to sell me. The price he gave me was a bottom line price ... no hidden charges or line item descriptions. His quote was exactly what the final price was. He is not a highly polished salesman, just an honest experienced workman trying to make a living by delivering what he promises.
They DID arrive a little late ... 10 minutes... but called me to say they would be there! They very efficiently removed the old system and installed the new units in a minimum of time, which was appreciated because it was 40 degrees with a 40 MPH wind. The new system operated without a glitch except the fan speed was a little high, so they returned the next day to adjust the RPM's from high to medium.
Clean-up was very well done ... with the old unit taken to a recycling center. (Am I green or what!)
If you need a polished salesman ... call elsewhere. If you need a job well done, at least give them a chance to bid.
