"Top notch land and lot clearing did a great job clearing my lots. They were very prompt in reaching out when I did an online inquiry. They had someone out to do an estimate the next day. I was able to book the job and they had equipment out with in the next two days to do the job. They were very reasonable with pricing that I was actually surprised. The two gentlemen that came out and did the work were very professional and seemed very experienced. I would recommend them to anyone."

"One of the most driven young men Iâ ve come across. I hired him to remove an old 12x20 shed and he was in and out before i arrived home from work. Within the following weeks be returned to lay stone around my home and build a fire pit where the shed used to be. When it comes to landscaping or machine work, heâ s the guy to call."

"I am from out of town and located Junk Jeeves on the internet. I was looking for a company to remove furniture and junk left by renters. I called and talked to a lady on the phone and within no time I received a call back. The next day , the truck arrived at my rental house in Niles and the house was emptied. Mike and Tyler who came to the house were extremely professional and pleasant. I would highly recommend Junk Jeeves for anyone who needs items removed from their property and the price was great!!!"

"I hired Zach to install a french drain, to plant some trees, and to install a rock bed at the edge of my property. Zach and crew were very timely and pleasant, and the price was right. But after completion i noticed some minor property damage, and some minor issues with the quality of work and cleanup. I'm a reasonable guy and sent Zach a text letting him know my thoughts, hoping to have a direct convo about it. However, I have not heard back from him at all. Hate to not leave 5 stars, but a little extra customer service would have gone a long way here. Here is that text: Hey Zach, just completed the final invoice. Apologies it took me a few days, we were camping with no cell service until yesterday. I wanted to let you know since i believe in constructive feedback, I'm not happy with some of the work done. My fence post was ran into and dented. I'll try to use a crowbar to repair but if that does not work i'll have to order a replacement & install. A bunch of the trees are planted at a pretty strong 30 degree angle instead of being upright. I'll straighten these out. There are still lots of big rocks in the lawn where the rock pile was. I'll take 30 minutes to clean it up. I know it rained heavily after the fresh soil / seed was planted, but some straw would have gone a long way to keep it in place. I'll have to re rake and seed and straw everything. Some of these are small things, but they leave a bad impression, and I wish your team would have just been upfront with me about the bent fence post."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

When hiring a professional for excavating, prioritize contractors with extensive experience navigating heavy clay soils and potential industrial fill in Warren. Verify that your chosen pro holds active registration with local building authorities and carries comprehensive liability insurance that covers subsurface hazards. Ask about their process for handling utility markings and securing permits, especially if your property sits near a flood zone requiring strict environmental compliance.

Helpful?

Watch for visible surface depressions or sinkholes, which indicate improper soil compaction during previous excavating work. In OH, severe frost heave or longitudinal cracks along old trench lines also signal failing backfill. If you notice persistent water pooling after heavy rains, unexplained utility pressure drops, or active soil erosion near sloped boundaries, hire a professional to assess and redo the compromised work to protect your property.

Helpful?

Before starting minor excavating tasks, contact the state utility protection service at least 48 hours in advance to mark buried lines. Hand-dig only in utility-clear zones, keeping at least 18 inches away from any marked flags. Warren features heavy clay soils that shift easily, so limit your digging depth. For issues near the Mahoning River floodplain, consult local officials first, as minor drainage changes require special approval to keep your property safe.

Helpful?

After completing an excavating project in Warren, schedule a final inspection with local authorities to officially close out your permit. Monitor the backfilled soil through a full freeze-thaw cycle, as heavy clay is highly prone to settling. Observe your yard during the first major rainstorm to ensure water flows away from your foundation properly. Finally, confirm with all utility providers that your services are fully restored and undamaged.

Helpful?

Homeowners consistently underestimate how local weather impacts excavating schedules in OH. The heavy clay soil expands during wet spring seasons and shrinks in summer, making trench walls highly unstable. Furthermore, the local frost depth reaches up to 42 inches, making winter digging extremely difficult. You must also account for strict stormwater regulations and floodplain setbacks, as altering drainage on your property requires extra time for local approvals and environmental reviews.
