"Carpenter did a great job with siding and trim, was friendly and communicated well. The only negative was the cleanup after the work, which was a mess and required my wife to call and have someone come back to cleanup. Our gutter installation was a completely different story. It took the team an entire week to show up to install the gutters following the siding repair. When they showed up on a Saturday morning, they dumped several boxes and gutters into our front lawn and left 10 mins later. The boxes remained in our yard 2 to 3 days with no phonecall or sight of the crew. They finally showed back up and finished the job...yet again without a phonecall that they were coming. When we received our bill we were charged for gutter guards being installed, although they were not. The individual on the phone removed the charge when we called and told us they would come install them anyway free of charge...it's been 9 months and we are still waiting. Finally for the size of the job, the price seemed a tad steep at 4000 dollars."

"We replaced vinyl siding on the entire house. We hand wind damage and Kyle helped us every step through the insurance process. He was able to point out issues that I didn't know we had. He was very helpful. The siding crew was absolutely amazing!! There was no hesitation when they arrived. They made very quick work of tearing down and replacement. I have not been that impressed in a long time. I would absolutely recommend Allstate and thank them for the job well done!"

"This is our second experience with American Home Tech, and as usual, they were amazing. They did our roof and siding last year. We just had a flooded basement and they did the cleanup. Alex was our lead contact on both projects. He was was very professional, thorough, and went overboard to make sure the work was done to our satisfaction. One thing I really appreciate was his communications. When he wasn’t there he was easy to reach and always responded right away. Shawn was our on site supervisor, and he was equally amazing. He made sure that everything was done correctly and to our satisfaction. I would highly recommend American Home Tech, and won’t use anyone else to do our work!"

"He did a wonderful work. He did the siding of my whole house and as well the installation of a new door. His quality is top of the line and so is his workmanship. I couldn't be more pleased with the work done. Everyone compliments his work when coming to my house."

"From my first contact, I have been more than pleased. Mike came out, maintained social distance, but established immediate rapport, came up with several solutions, discussed pros and cons, and by the time he'd left, he had a deposit in his hands to install siding and soffits to my 66 year old ranch. George came out in a few days, accurately measured for the order and made me more certain I'd hired a capable, knowledgeable team to take care of my investment in time for cold weather. Ray and Jeff worked tirelessly to get the place covered, sealed, and protected for years to come, cleaned up after themselves, and were fun to have around. They went over the top, and even installed my new porch light and mailbox. We love the look, and the workmanship and will call them in the future for any home improvement projects."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Wood siding requires that air can circulate behind it and that water can drain away if necessary. Your home needs a water-restrictive barrier underneath furring strips to achieve the air and water gap.

Fiber cement siding is one of the lowest-maintenance options. The material’s formula is resistant to insect activities, moisture, and most physical impacts. Vinyl and aluminium siding is also fairly easy to upkeep. All these low-maintenance options only require basic surface cleaning, caulking, and regular gutter maintenance to prevent water dams from forming.

Steel and aluminum are two types of metal siding that are commonly used for residential and commercial buildings, but the materials have specific differences. Typically, steel is heavier and sturdier, fending off scratches and dents, while aluminum is lightweight and more prone to damage. Cost is another differentiating factor, as steel is more expensive than aluminum siding cost.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Wood siding requires an air gap behind it to allow water to drain out, and for air circulation and venting to allow humid air to escape and keep the material from rotting due to moisture.
