"They found mold, gas leaks, bad wiring and bad beams..My Kitchen was remodeled, and all of my other house issues was brought up to code and fix correctly. All with my son, and son in-law agreeing with their suggestions. Very fair price for a job well done. I will be calling D Squared Contractors for my other house projects."

"The project was actually all outdoor space. They redid our wood deck with Trax and added several features, including an expansion and site prep for a new hot tub, privacy fence, etc. Excellent attention to detail and ensuring things were done right. We will be hiring them again on our next project."

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

"The man I talked to was very professional and timely. However, he explained that this particular job was beyond the scope of what their company does. I would certainly use them on another 'issue'.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.

No, space planning is not only relevant for new spaces. With the help of a professional architect, you can still create a space plan for an existing space.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

Yes, most designers tailor plans to fit your budget. Discuss financial constraints during initial consultations.

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.
