Discover the art of furniture restoration, refinishing, and repair with D L Custom Woodworking & Restoration. I restore antique to newer furniture as well as making wood repairs. Do not work on recliners or sofas or upholstered furniture.

"Dave is an excellent craftsman, he refinished a large oak table for us and did an incredible job. Dave gave us a date he would be available to do the work and a time he would finish, on both counts he was true to his word. Wonderful experience, would definitely like to work with him again. Welcome to my profile! I specialize in the design, fabrication and installation of IKEA kitchen cabinetry, giving you a semi custom kitchen for much less! IKEA kitchens are my specialty, and has been for the last two decades, across northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia and New Jersey too. It's all I do. IKEA Kitchens are a great value, and you'll keep more money in your pocket than you would with other brands. The quality, fit and finish are very good- I've visited kitchens I've installed 20 years ago and they're still in good condition (my clients know they can reach me anytime after their install should issues arise!). IKEA uses only Blum hardware for door hinges and drawer glides- the best of the best. But IKEA kitchens demand a high degree of precision and has to be installed with this in mind, especially when incorporating wall ovens, micro drawers or other built-in appliances such as Fisher-Paykel, Miehle, etc. Give me a call or send an email about your project! No charge for estimates. Thank you, Erik Gustav Tel:614.483.7110 [email protected] www.ikeatech.com

"Erik was hired to install IKEA cabinets in our home for a full kitchen renovation. I felt confident in assembling the cabinets and finishing them (doors, hardware, drawers, toe kicks, etc) but we wanted a professional to make sure the cabinets were hung level, plumb, and square. From our first conversation it was obvious that Erik is an expert in all things IKEA. He provided some guidance and changes to our design to make some subtle improvements that would not have been obvious to us. He also immediately identified a critical flaw in our design that would have greatly impacted the final outcome but luckily we had enough time to get the proper replaced item. Communication with Erik was decent but be prepared for patience with emails and texts. Phone calls seemed to be most effective. Also be prepared to be patient for his schedule. Despite our efforts to plan ahead and get on “his radar” back in July, it still took several rounds of calls and discussions to finally get a week nailed down and the arrival day wasn’t determined until the week-of. You will need to be flexible. The installation was very fast - he had all of the work completed in one day. He is also very precise and detailed. He took time to show me how cabinets were anchored to the wall, that cabinets were level and prepped for the countertop template. He also cleaned up nicely, was courteous in our home and has a professional demeanor. The installation wasn’t without issue though. He accidentally stepped on a weak piece of our corner cabinet and broke it. His solution was to “sister” a piece below it. I was told it wouldn’t affect the countertops as this had no load bearing properties and it won’t be visible once countertops are installed. I believe that he is correct, and accidents happen, but it was disappointing as mishaps was something I wanted to avoid and large reason why we elected to hire someone rather than do the installation ourselves. No adjustment was made to the agreed upon price to account for the broken cabinet which I felt would have been the appropriate thing to do even it was a minor reduction. Overall, I would hire Erik again and be better prepared to be patient and clearly a communicate my expectations. He is precise, detailed, and very knowledgeable on IKEA systems. His involvement resulted in a nice overall outcome."

Being a sober contractor has it's perks! Not only am I a man of my word, I also can think clearly when troubling shooting work safely and be trusted. I'm not in the business of being greedy or dishonest. Just working hard and providing for my family.

Furniture Reupholstery questions, answered by experts

Interior and exterior door openings are typically 80 inches high, with openings 29¼ inches wide for interior doors and 35 inches wide for exterior doors. If your couch is smaller than these measurements, it should fit through the door frame.

It can be cheaper to reupholster a chair or other piece of furniture than to buy a new one, depending on how much it costs to replace. If the chair or couch originally cost less than $300, then reupholstery may not be the cheapest option. However, if the chair is expensive, vintage, or discontinued, reupholstery can be the more affordable option. This is especially true if the piece of furniture is out-of-production or holds sentimental value.

On average, the cost to reupholster furniture is about $720 per piece. However the price range to upholster a piece of furniture varies widely from about $380 to $1,150 or more, depending on the material type and availability, repairs needed, and the complexity of the project. Fabric costs typically range from $50 to $70 per yard while the cost of labor runs from $40 to $100 per hour.

Costs depend on fabric choice, furniture size, cushioning, and labor. For significant projects, expect estimates between $350 and $1,200.

Doing your own upholstery work is possible, but it’s typically a better idea to leave the work to professionals. Without experience and the proper tools, it’s difficult to get a professionally finished appearance for your furniture, and many DIYers end up spending money on tools and materials only to hire a professional when they can’t get the fabric to look right. If you have reupholstery experience, feel free to give it a shot. However, if you’re not confident in your skill level or you’re working with antiques, it’s worth the money to hire a pro.
