"I am delighted to have found Jaime’ Quality Home Improvements! He did a total rebuild of our wet bar in the family room and a remodel in the half bath. He did all building of the bar, flooring, installed lighting, wall coverings, electrical, plumbing, etc. His work and attention to detail are amazing. He thinks things through and finds the best solution, which I very much appreciated. He completed the projects in a timely fashion and was very fairly priced. I will use him for other projects I plan to do. I recommend him VERY HIGHLY. Great personality and great person! Thanks Jaime!"

"John and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were done in less than 8 hours. John is very hands on with his crew, he was on site the entire time. He kept us informed throughout the process and fixed any issues he encountered. After they left, we walked around the house to look at our beautiful new roof and noticed they cleaned up every bit of the debris. We highly recommend his company."

"It went absolutely great!! Dennis was at my house within one hour of our initial conversation and had an estimate to me within 2 hours! They were professional, efficient and mindful of our 2 dogs. They cleaned up when they were finished and took all of the debrie. I've already got plans for my next project with Sustainable Designs!"

"I can't say enough about the transformation to my house was after Duane was done. He took a 50 year old white aluminum sided house and transformed it to the clay colored vinyl you now see (I'm sure he'll post pics). It wasn't so much the quality of work and the daily progress being made, something we should all expect from a contractor, but the attention to detail and the ways he made things look greater than imaginable. Instead of obstacles making something look bad, because that's the way it is, he could make it completely unnoticeable. I gotta say, he took an old house and gave it new flair. Plus he rocked on installing a new front porch further accenting an already fine job on the house. He leaves no stone unturned and is an artist at what he does. He is the last contractor I'll ever need. And most of all, I gained a new friend. GREAT JOB DUANE AND THANKS AGAIN !"

Home Building questions, answered by experts

A construction-to-permanent loan is the most common type of mortgage used to finance a house teardown and rebuild. These loans include financing for construction costs and convert to a long-term mortgage once construction is complete. Check the terms of the loan closely before beginning work—there are often restrictions requiring you to use licensed contractors for all work.

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

How long it takes to build a custom home or rebuild a home after a disaster varies depending on many factors, but averages between seven and 14 months. Smaller homes or homes that don’t need a re-poured foundation may take less time to build than larger homes or homes without an existing foundation. Material availability, contractor schedules, and permit and inspection timelines can all affect how long your house takes to build.

A contractor can install your shipping container home in as little as 90 days. This is notably quick compared to a traditional home build, which can take more than a year (providing there aren’t permitting or construction delays that make the wait even longer). For the quickest installation, choose a prefab container home.

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.
